Player Richarlison

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Firstly, you can never say that Richarlison’s finishing is almost as good as Kane’s! That’s just bonkers.

I’ve been Richy’s biggest critic but he has to start at centre forward just now while he is scoring and contributing every game. The goal on Saturday demonstrates that having Sonny wide even though his best position for us is centre forward is more beneficial. Richy wouldn’t find Johnson at the back post at that stage of the game. It’s all about the timing and pace of the run that gets him in a position to have that extra second to play the pass between defence and keeper. Richy not having the pace would give the defenders enough time to recover and block the cross and even then I don’t think Richy would make the cross.

If your centre forward is on 9 goals in 9 games he plays. No dispute. Sonny is not a one trick pony so he can still produce from wide left as he showed on Saturday. I’d like to see Werner on the right just now too.
Kane probably tanked his goals/xG a bit by taking a lot of pot shots/freekicks during our "down years", so yes. Obviously Kane is better at finishing, but Richarlison is still at the very top at it, no matter how clumsy he can look.

I agree with your overall sentiment. I also believe Richarlison is better as a striker for us due to his strength when turned away from goal and also being a better target for heading on crosses.
But more important than looking at players in isolation is how the front 3 work together, both when we have the ball and when we do not.

What Ange believes functions best right now is pretty obvious.

Our second goal against Brighton was a thing of beauty, Richy's defence splitting pass was sublime, Sonny's precise assist was delicious and I can't thinking of a better way to finish up than with a BJ which was climatic.

I wish I understood football like you.

Oh well...

lol..don't get defensive when people are being honest lol..btw talk to any other football fan from a rival team..they all agree richarlison isn't good enough.

Eh he’s about average. Multiple seasons where he is under his xG and the ones he’s over are not by much. This season he’s over by one but I suspect he will be possibly below it at end of season as I do not believe this form will continue.

Average?

Tell me how many players there are with an over performance of 15% and more than 30 goals in the PL over the seasons.

Richarlison is playing good enough right now and we need to give him credit for that.

But we all know deep down that he is not the main man we can count on for goals for years to come... plus his link up play is very poor sometimes.

I think he is a perfect squad player... can be used as a utility player to fill in roles if someone gets injured.

I think we can count on him always fighting, pressing, and scoring a decent amount of goals for many years ahead.

Of course he wont be scoring a goal every game forever!

Richarlison has 68 goals in 59.1 xG during his entire time in the PL (Watford, Everton, Spurs). = 1.15 ratio

Son has 97 goals in 69.4 xG since 2017/2018 season (because Fbref frame start there) = 1.40 ratio

Kane 135 in 111.8 since 2017/2018 for Spurs, Bayern not counted = 1.21 ratio

Richarlisons finishing is almost as good as Kane's and absolutely elite. Son is the best finisher in the world and from inside the box he has an 1.3 ratio, but his stats are pulled to 1.4 because his outside the box is somewhere between 2.5 and 3.0.

So the difference in inside the box finishes between Richarlison and Son over a season given, let's say 20 xG would be:

Richarlison: 20x1.15 = 23 goals
Son: 20x1.3 = 26 goals
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is an extreme oversimplification of what their roles entail and how having them in different positions would play out. But if you want to compare their finishing in the box there isn't a big enough difference to decide their positions on that.
That certainly does not read as 'an extreme oversimplification' of anything!

It's more like a pure Maths formula!! √π§(π%×÷[~π]+2/)

I would say the opposite!

Maths/Statistics boil everything complicated and intellectual about football into the most simple and tunnel eyed visions we could have. It's potent at telling us what is most certainly true or not true, but only allows this for what is easily put down in numbers.

Which, when someone says Richarlison can't finish for shit, is easy to disprove. It's more difficult to prove in numbers whether Bissouma or Bentancur are good at stifling opposition attacks. Then you would have to provide evidence in video form pretty much, which would of course be extremely biased towards the good actions in those videos.

So the only way to really determine how good a player is overall is to basically tape and analyze them separately for entire games, entire seasons. Which is what the scouting department does, probably after the data science guys have run down the numbers on some key actions so that we don't have to sit down and watch a full years games of every singly player on the planet.

Anyways... what were we talking about? Where am I? Who, who am I?

Exactly...people here are just delusional and don't understand football..

Lets even look at the stats 15/23 with his passes...? seriously..?

Outside of headers and tap ins what else can he do...? If he scores 15-20 goals by the end of the season keep him as a squad player...if not sell him honestly.
Well he doesn't need to do much more than that, does he??

With Ange's system that is enough! We didn't need a striker in the Kane mould, that drops deeper and acting like a second playmaker!

And we can't compare anyone with Kane, he's unique. There's not a single striker in the world like him.

To an extent I agree... and I see your point (so kindly put it away, there are females present!!)

I guess what I'm alluding to, is that there is no maths formula on earth than can exactly explain why sometimes, when walking up to the game, you just get that nagging feeling it's not our day, or an unqualified optimism with no basis in statistics or form, that we're just gonna win today!!

I think that feeling you get is similar with players, as it's as much about body language and overall demeanour. ...you just know they're gonna score, or the total opposite, and for some inexplicable reason, could play til midnight without scoring... even if they've been in good form previously.

Richy has played with a scowl on his face for most of his career... but recently, there's a chink of light that he may just be warming into his role/position/demands.

Whilst he's never gonna play with a beaming smile, there's definitely a change in his demeanour...

I know he's had other issues off the pitch, but this recent positive change in him is mainly to do with goalscoring... not necessarily what 1.4 xG he has going into any given matchday...

As the old song goes, I'm stuck on a feeling...

Thass all.

Here's an idea.

Fu...I mean go away.

The guys having a rich vein of form, scoring goals, goals that matter, and still people are digging him out.

FFS.

I wasn't a fan, but he's shown huge improvement on top of an already unquestionably good attitude.
