Whilst he played well and scored a vital goal, Richy showed his limitations yesterday and underlined why we need to upgrade him this summer. When he failed to pass to Muani in the first half we missed out on an almost certain goal. I do not think he was being selfish, I think he was unaware the first time lay off was on as he plays head down and battles CBs.
Totally agree. But also someone we need to upgrade in the summer. He was a 6/10 striker yesterday but 10/10 effort and defensive play. Guy seemed to be all over the pitch.
I thought the same about the missed opportunity at the start to pass to Muani, but I think his overall performance more than made up for it.
As Everton found out, he's the guy you need in a relegation scrap.
Yup - he's a midtable striker and always has been. Passionate, a menace, and always a threat in the box but often infuriating in possession and not someone any top team should or would be relying on.Totally agree. But also someone we need to upgrade in the summer.
Defo need to upgrade him but think Solanke might be the one to we move.Yup - he's a midtable striker and always has been. Passionate, a menace, and always a threat in the box but often infuriating in possession and not someone any top team should or would be relying on.
This summer feels like the natural break point. Get like 15m for him or whatever (or a lot more from Saudi) and move on.

I think De Zerbi rates Solanke more - he's consistently picked him over Rich as a 9 when both were fit and I think he's much more of a 'De Zerbi player', even if hes not got Rich's eye for goal.Defo need to upgrade him but think Solanke might be the one to we move.
At least Richy seems to know where the back of the net is

We either have to give Richy a new contract in the summer or sell. It’s that simple. And with his body and age it’s time for him to go to a less physically challenging league.
Neither should stay. Glad richy scored and hopefully a few more in the next three games but in no way going forward should he be here next season. Us avoiding relegation should not save most of this lot from being shown the door come the summer.
It's a tricky one. You could argue Solanke deserves a chance under a new manager to show what he can do, (although he's not exactly set the world on fire so far under De Zerbi), but Richarlison's still got the much higher goal threat (when he's fit enough to play, which is another issue). We either have to give Richy a new contract in the summer or sell. He has one year left. We have to get at least a bit of money for him this summer rather than let him walk. Although it will increase the run of selling our top scorer to four years running now.
He is a fighter alright. And he tries his best! I kind of like him.
But that does not change the fact that soon its gonna be 4 years done with us. And over that time he has played 6544 minutes. With FOUR years. That is 1636 minutes. Even if he plays 3x90 more this ratio would increase to 1703 minutes. That is 19 full games. Across ALL competitions. For team that is usually involved in ~55 games... that is just not reliable enough.
So I think when he helps us escape relegation we have to thank him for that. But we cannot really rely on him.
