Management Roberto De Zerbi

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not in November though, DeZerbi was never leaving Marseille then. Also we don't know if De Zerbi was gettable last summer.

I don't care about Paratici and his opinions anyway. He has contributed massively to this poor construction of this squad

I don't really care for Paratici either and you're right I think he's gotten away with a lot of shit but on this occasion I will back him over Lange and Vinai, if the managerial decision was down to him in the Summer they we wouldn't have hired Frank.

Paratici wanted Tudor to replace Frank in Nov......yes Paratici is full of flaws
As far as I'm aware, Tudor was only ever a temporary back-up plan if we couldn't persuade De Zerbi to sign.
Which is how it transpired but had Paratici stuck around, it may have been different and we could've persuaded RDZ earlier without throwing the kitchen sink at him?
I don't know but I do know that Fab wanted shot of Frank way before Xmas.

Frank was a pathetic appointment.
All those you tubers gaslighting us that Frank would have us organised, was tactically flexible, could play a back 3/4 etc talked bollocks. He never managed Europe, 2 games a week, bigger names, etc. Ditching Ange may have been the right thing to do but not for Frank. He was not a step up. He didn’t develop not one of our academy players. He lined them ALL out. He couldn’t be bothered to work with them.

Thing is, even with managers that have done well, it's not that hard to construct a narrative why they might've failed.

Poch had never won anything or managed in Europe, Kompany had got relegated with Burnley, Arteta had never managed a game in his life, etc.

Frank was proven to be a total failure, but 90% of managerial appointments are, to some degree, a punt, and on paper there were plenty of positives like the ones you listed. Hell, most neutrals thought he was a very solid appointment at the time.

I think the biggest lesson I've learned from it all is you can't expect a manager to change and become something they're not. The club were foolish to convince themselves he would be able to implement an attacking style of play when his Brentford team had maybe 1 attacking-ish season in the Championship. Scoring lots of goals does not equate to attacking football, and the club failed to recognise the complete change in style he'd implement and how poorly it suited our players both on and off the pitch.

We made an almost identical mistake with Nuno and really shouldn't have made it again.

We were all sold a pup with Frank, with him supposedly being adaptable, trusting youth and capable of attacking footie.
What we got was a clueless coward and that became properly apparent over the Chelsea and Woolwich games.
That was where he lost a lot of the fanbase, me included.

The players not shaking his hand after those games and then him making it all about the fans, which in turn the players did too. If we notice there’s been nothing since Frank left about players blaming fans or falling out with them. If I didn’t know any better I’d say it was something being stoked by Frank in order to provoke some kind of reaction from the players. But yeah, it was obvious to everyone he’d lost them after those two games. It was all a bit weird in hindsight but he should have gone before January.

Our initial warning about him though should have been that he failed to get the jobs at Chelsea and Man U after being interviewed by them. Two clubs as badly run as us passed on him. That’s a pretty big red flag.

With hindsight that is absolutely right. I still maintain he wasn't a bad appointment at the time. Plenty of coaches have stepped up from a smallish club to succeed at a big club. Poch for one. But this time it didn't work. Perhaps it was too much of a stretch tactically and that should have been foreseen. Frank DID improve a lot of players at Brentford though - I'm sure that was a big part of the appeal to Levy. The FAR bigger balls-up, because there was abundant evidence it wasn't working, was to keep him as long as we did.

Impressed with him so far. Yes, it will absolutely end in tears and a tantrum at some point but right now he looks up for the fight. Love his passion but above all he seems to be getting some sort of tune out of this lot. Unlucky not to get a point at Sunderland and 3 last Saturday. Given time, a full pre season and a few of his own players he could have us back in contention for European places fairly quickly.
Im not impressed by him, and not particularly impressed by his career

I think though he is competent, which is something our last 2 managers haven't been

Came to say this myself.
I'm gonna paste it anyway
Just 'cause.

It was his basic tactics and style of play that cost him his job. Players probably thought the manager was shit.
