We need a better striker but finding one is very tough.

Also, our players aren't as bad as some on this board may have thought a few weeks back. We're a bit shite up-front for sure, but elsewhere we are for sure a top 6 squad IF we have a good coach

I think that's a bit of a stretch. How many of our players would hold down starting positions in another top 6 side? Also, our players aren't as bad as some on this board may have thought a few weeks back. please don't say thatWith everyone fit RDZ would have this team top 8. We need a midfielder who can pass a LW and striker. maybe a LB.
I meant to register years ago .. anyway, first post. It's probably a bit off the wall, see what you think.
What I find interesting in the solution RdZ has come up with in midfield is that he's consciously chosen to go with one set over another. The set he's chosen is 'fathers' (Bentancur, Palhinha, Biss (subbed on) + mature Gallagher) and the set on the bench is 'sons' (Gray, Bergvall, Sarr). I thought about that because, as mad as he is in some ways, I see the traditional, Italian, Catholic father in RdZ. Fwiw, I go to Italy most summers so it's fresh in my head.
He also talked about it before: "Roberto De Zerbi believes he will have to be a brother or father rather than a head coach if he is to pull Tottenham from their relegation battle".
It obv. only goes so far when the players available are so limited but it seems to hold up. Psychologically, it's an important time for emotional maturity and life experience.
Thought I'd mention it because Jack whatsit-Pitt talks a bit about it in that new article but he didn't see RdZ's personal Catholic/father/maturity angle.
Just thought it was worth a mention. Cheers.
One thing is for sure, the team will not look like that if we stay up.How Tottenham could line up next season if they stay up with bumper contract for wonderkid, 19, to fend off Euro giants

Well, Gallagher was Chelsea captain when they were top 6, so I'd include him.I think that's a bit of a stretch. How many of our players would hold down starting positions in another top 6 side?
Romero
VDV
Possibly Simons and a fit Maddison
After that I'd be struggling.
I agree. And my top 6 point was based on us having a better attack. Which absolutely IS below top 6 standard. With everyone fit RDZ would have this team top 8. We need a midfielder who can pass a LW and striker. maybe a LB.
I've said Top 6 if we improved the attack. People (and clubs) underestimate the difference a competent coach makes. It's massive. Even Ange finished 5th ffs! I don't think saying Top 6 with RDZ and a proper no9 is that big a deal. There are currently two good teams in the PL. Look at Man U. Utter shite for 18 months until three months ago. Change in coach, and top 6.I switch back and forth on this. On paper, a squad full of internationals on very good money, that could play for clubs around and above our stature, yet we find ourselves wallowing.
I’m not going to lay the entire blame at Frank, as these players have agency to still try and look interested.
But I’m already seeing this place creaking. A couple of good matches and you know, Porro might be ok. Bentancur has been the difference. Spence just needs an arm round the shoulder. Danso could be a great first choice.
Not sure I can forgive the players for this season, but I can see the forum making that journey already.
But yes, I agree, this is a top six squad. Expensively assembled, well paid and well looked after. But been badly coached for a couple of years. Do we forgive their lethargy and attitude because the right man wasn’t in charge? Dunno.
Put it in your own perspective. You have a job with a manager you respect, makes you believe in yourself and with colleagues who you enjoy working with and inspire you.I switch back and forth on this. Like most of those, although I'm fairly certain RDZ will want to keep Udogie if we stay up - he's spoken highly of him and seems to like him. Regardless we 100% need a new LB regardless as he's made of biscuits. We should keep him if we can, sell Romero and bring in Vuskovic.
Sell Romero, Vicario, Spence, Udogie and Dragusin from the backline and replace with new GK, a backup CB, new LB and backup RB, should still leave a healthy bit of cash to spend on improving further up the pitch which needs major investment, especially the attackers.
We might be able to get around 120m for the 5 we should shift out. 50, 20, 20, 20, 10, anything extra is a bonus with that lot.
