Management Roberto De Zerbi

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Exactly! You want your RB doing the exact opposite of all that! He's more interested in trying to get into a show of strength going nowhere than he is in playing a quick pass that helps the team. Really poor Football I.Q.

Our team is littered with it. It is the one good thing with De Zerbi taking them for this couple of months. He can suss them all out in terms of that. Stay up and I suspect already he knows who needs to stay or go. If he came in to us in the summer he'd have to learn that in preseason in a world cup summer, which isnt ideal at all.

We have a way to go yet to be safe and to make the progress required but the improvement is stark.
I mean what the actual f*** was tudor, frank and ange to an large extent doing in training? We had zero patterns of play, players stood still all over just watching our player with the ball and doing nothing. Its bonkers.

You can actually see the patterns now and u see players that are 2 or 3 passes down the sequence actually making those moves to create the space for the pass they know they will recieve! You actually see danso having the ball and looking to pass out the the right and porro ready to recieve and kolo also showing movement to then recieve from porro along with a cm in the vicinity too.

The overall standard of football style were allowed to drop so low its ridiculous and hard to believe.

If we stay up then the owners owe not only the fans but also RDZ so much.

Call me a pessimist, am just not gonna take anything for granted when it comes to us.

Yeah foolish to be anything else when it comes to us tbh. I will see that I think De Zerbi has done great so far - it's absolutely massive that the players all seem to have bought into him. I feel more connection with the squad now than I have at any other stage this season.

I think he can build here something similar to what Poch has done in the best years if we give him the tools and support, hopefully with the addition of the odd trophy. I feel a certain positivity this week when I speak other Spurs fans that I haven't seen in a long long time.

I 100% believe in De Zerbi and us staying up. If so, really looking forward to next season.

I've been banging on for months that we're not even doing the basics , so to see such a major transformation in such a short space of time is testament to the fact that we've had 3 previous managers that were just trying to chance their way through . There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that we had players capable of great performances , but were being suffocated by managers that try to play the Tottenham way but don't know how to apply it in tactics . Totally agree that the owners need to back RDZ and get the players he wants - NOT CHEAP ALTERNATIVES . If we're serious about getting CL football then back the guy . Get rid of the fringe players that are poor seconds and get proper competition for places . Players that will have the first team players on their toes for fear of losing their place in the starting line up .

100%! i'd like to think he's been studying games from the last 3 years too.

Notice how we got numbers in the box against Villa, we haven't done that for a long time, thats how you score goals, numbers in the box and get the ball in. Our forward line needs a massive shakeup though, its easily one of the worst in the league. Will be interesting to see Kulu and Kudus under RDZ, Kudus especially as he has good potential but needs coaching on how to use the ball better.

I would be intrigued to see what a 4231 would look like at the start of next year with the 3 being Maddison, Kulu and Gallagher but more narrow than traditional, get width from the full-backs, that 3 can all interchange to pull a team about. Gallagher is a pressing machine, use his energy, it will rub off on others, you can’t cheat your team when you see someone putting in that level of intensity, you’ll stick out like a sore thumb.

If RDZ keeps us up, I unironically believe he should get a plaque or something inside the stadium.

To take a squad with this many injuries, bereft of confidence, and who apparently haven't been coached in nearly three years and transform them in just a few weeks to save the club from relegation would be one of the all time great coaching performances.

I meant to register years ago .. anyway, first post. It's probably a bit off the wall, see what you think.
What I find interesting in the solution RdZ has come up with in midfield is that he's consciously chosen to go with one set over another. The set he's chosen is 'fathers' (Bentancur, Palhinha, Biss (subbed on) + mature Gallagher) and the set on the bench is 'sons' (Gray, Bergvall, Sarr). I thought about that because, as mad as he is in some ways, I see the traditional, Italian, Catholic father in RdZ. Fwiw, I go to Italy most summers so it's fresh in my head.
He also talked about it before: "Roberto De Zerbi believes he will have to be a brother or father rather than a head coach if he is to pull Tottenham from their relegation battle".
It obv. only goes so far when the players available are so limited but it seems to hold up. Psychologically, it's an important time for emotional maturity and life experience.
Thought I'd mention it because Jack whatsit-Pitt talks a bit about it in that new article but he didn't see RdZ's personal Catholic/father/maturity angle.
Just thought it was worth a mention. Cheers.

said similar a few days ago. If (and it's a huge glaring if, still) he did keep us up it would be a quite ridiculous achievement worth of each and every accolade
