Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Shame he didnt score with that beauty shot in first half. Was way better than in previous games. Also crucial for both attacking and defending set pieces

It’s amazing how some only want to see things when they want. He’s been one of our better players all season along with Paulinha and they are the reason we are winning games away from home. He’s never going to be a playmaker so folk should stop expecting that. These two in the engine room just need to keep the ball and get it to our supposed more creative players. If our front 4 can do more middle to third then we are going to be a tough team to handle.

Hopefully.

Buy yep, posters see resukts or whatever bias they hold, and that's often that. Boring.

Indeed.

So, following that spurious logic, they are the reason we’ve only win one out of four at home then, yes?

You never added in how many headers he won in both boxes. My argument is he’s doing a very good job for us away from home. As I said in this thread or the weekends match thread I think Bergval should be playing in the home matches instead of him.

Go watch the game again and tell me if your 1 tackle and zero interceptions is correct

These people are crazy. We need more offensive football from one of these two centermidfeild players or we'll go nowhere. This soak up the pain set peice stuff is not a sustainable plan. Its a base to build off but it can be no kind of destination.

Regardless, he played well yesterday and some numpty cherry picking a few stats instead of trusting what he saw isn’t going to change my mind.

I do agree with this but at the moment they are giving us the building blocks for a season of not struggling in the bottom half of the table. We don’t want to see us playing the way we are playing home and away we need more forward thinking midfielders who will play it forward. At this moment in time we are not creating much but the ghost of losing too many games is gone and I think a big part of that is because of those two players.
Bergvall for me must start with Paulinha in the home games as he can drive with the ball and is very dynamic. We need better footballers in midfield, wide and up top especially at home. If we need to shut up shop at home then I’m happy enough with Bentancur and Paulinha but not to start games. I’m a big fan of them because they are not fucking pussies. They get stuck in and have a will and desire to win and I’ll take that over guys who’ll jump out of tackles and not give 100%.

thats unreal! where are you getting this info from?

as you said, huge reason we have been so shit at home, you can get away with that setup in away games, but at home its self harm.

THAT IS EXACTLY THE ISSUE - before yesterday ball was not moving there.
I think the Villa game passing map has been shared billion times by now.
Issue was that both players did very safe passing only. And at winning the ball back and securing backline Palhinha is very clearly better than Bentancur. Thus the critique was aimed at him - arguably Palhinha did his part well but should be paired with someone more progressive than Palhinha lite.

But against Everton both of the CMs passed the ball with more freedom and intent. As a result ball did reach more dangerous areas faster. Based on Everton game Bentancur does deserve praise - did play better and it was visible in our overall play too. Hope he can keep this up in coming games too.
