Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'm with him. There both junk but a smart coach can take Sissoko's uselessness and make it hinder the oposition. He was way tougher than Bentancur and an athlete so you just throw in front of the opositions danger man for 90 mins. Seriously in a good squad Sissoko few assets can be worth a squad place Bentancur is just baking in your own mediocrity. Also Sissoko was actually a uniting figure in the dressing room. He was a dad and with all utter babies we have that be useful. As opposed to Benard manning with his 'gook' jokes 😠

Saying Sissoko was better than Bentancur just proves that people need to lose their password and take a break from this site from time to time.
A player in poor form, playing in a dreadful system the makes nobody look any good*, under a useless coach that has hindered the form of almost every single player in the squad, and people would have you believe he's ready for the glue factory.

If we took that approach for everyone then we'd have about 3 players come pre-season.

*Caveat, the keeper gets a good highlight reel out of it I guess...

People just doing way too much and looking back on Poch memories with nostalgia glasses, Sissoko was fucking dreadful and he was playing in a team that was flying at the time and he still stood out as barely above average, he made fucking Winks look like Iniesta.

But yeah I agree I said this before, people just generally go OTT - literally every player in this system look lost because they're being asked to do things they can't do and have since lost confidence and direction - Bentancur in this team is levels above Sissoko and I don't even like Bentancur that much - God imagine Sissoko playing in this system.

Sissoko is one of the worst Spurs players I've ever watched, especially considering his minutes to quality ratio. Yes he had a turnaround but that was because the bar was so shockingly low to begin with.

Bentancur is a decent squad player and fine for a lot of games. We can't flog everyone at once and Bergvall/Gray still need time. Biss is 100% first out the door.

Sissoko was great for a season under Poch, a great ball carrier and always active. He was key for a French euros win and in the squad for a good bit after. He also helped us to a CL final.

He will have had a better career than Bentancur hands down. Sissoko all day long.
Bentancur won the Italian league 3 times and the top league in Argentina twice. Won cups in both countries.
Sissoko is winding down his career at Watford with no winners medals of any kind.

agree. sissoko wasnt silky but he had attributes that you can use to benefit in the right setup, around good footballers... bentancur is not elite at anything, hes a bang average player.

sissoko was voted player of the year by spurs legends one year....his work might not be the most beautiful on the eye but it was effective to helping his side win games.

if i remember correctly, ajax first game we were getting overrun in midfield and poch got his selection all wrong, if vertonghen didnt get a head injury we would of been blown out in the first leg. vertonghen got replaced by sissoko and it stopped them running riot through our midfield.

eriksen, wanyama and dele could not compete against young energetic midfielders that could move.

The only Euro’s he was key in was their loss on home soil to a shit, Ronaldo-less Portugal.

Bentancur’s a plodder but so was Sissoko, but at least Bentancur can trap a football. And Bentancur’s won championships in Italy with Juve. Sissoko’s been relegated almost everywhere he’s been.

Only a complete idiot would play him in a midfield two.

What you win is the Jimi Traore Harry Kane take. It means nothing. Sissoko played for Spurs in teams that competed and got to a ECL final. There both crap but I'd rather be in his Spurs time than Bentancurs.

I’m a Bentancur fan. Think he brings a lot. However he’s clearly upgradable.

As to whether we sell in the summer, I think it’ll depend on whether we’re in Europe next season. If so, we’d be stupid to sell. If not, then I think we can afford to let him go if we get an offer: assuming Madders and Kulu competing for the “10”, Gray, Berg, Sarr aren’t going anywhere, the promising Devine returning from a good loan, Cardoso on this cheap buy clause, we’ll struggle for minutes.

That’s a very negative spin on getting to a final, dominating it and losing it to a freak Eder goal. He was France’s best player in that final by the way.

Yeah he won championships with Juve, and Juve were so enamoured with him they sold him for the modern football equivalent of a packet of biscuits.

As if Bentancur wouldn’t be relegated playing for Watford or Newcastle. Ludicrous to act like either was Sissoko’s fault.

Sissoko was a fucking great ball carrier, very athletic, superb engine, could play a few positions and in his peak season under Poch was a genuinely decent cog in an actually good team.

I don’t really care if people view Bentancur as better but the idea it’s an easy choice is baffling to me. Bentancur has had about 8-9 months of top form at Spurs and nothing else. They’re perfectly comparable in terms of impact at both clubs.

If Bentancur had not been injured, he'd have been probably our top CM for 3 years rather than a season or so

If Sissoko had the same ACL injury as Bentancur he'd have disappeared faster than Wanyama did after one season

No idea why we always like to compare past players to what we have now. Both are shit when they are shit, and both are very useful for US when they find their form.

I'm not a fan of Sissoko, I always criticised him at SC. He's so limited by his abilities. But I remembered there was a period when he was just fantastic. Those powerful runs from deep with strong muscles in the middle. How I missed that in our current squad - can you believe nobody can do that for us at the moment!? And you can bet his efforts was always 100%, something which I really appreciate NOW.

RB is definitely better than Sissoko without a doubt, but he is also upgradable. He’s not been playing his best for us, but at the moment I’m reluctant to start shouting that underperforming players need to be shopped out until the manager has gone.
The biggest reason the players are underperforming is because the coaching is poor and there’s no accountability; players don’t get bollocked for coasting or making mistakes. It’s not just Rod either, it’s the whole team.
So for me until we Ange goes and we bring in someone who can coach the players properly and kick them up the backside there’s no point rushing to change players as the outcome will be the same.

Sissoko was an awful player , in fact his signing sums up levy’s tenure , a last minute deal for a player to appease the fans and we only jumped in cos Everton had agreed a fee , lazy and cheap recruitment , Poch wanted Sadio Mane and was given Sissoko .

Must not give him a new contract.

He hasn't earned it. Nowhere near.

Too fragile, not a leader, not good enough...and that Sonny incident.

But Levynomics.
