Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I mean you cannot be mad at being on 11th place with Bentancur the main midfielder.
This is his absolute maximum. He never has been better than bottom half midfielder. Not disciplined enough in defense, not creative enough on the ball, requires 20 sqmeters of room around him to be able to turn with the ball, constant hiding. This is Benta in nutshell.

It is absolutely no coincidence that in the season we finished 5th he almost did not play. And in this purple-patch of a run of 10 games without defeat he played combined 1 minute.

Now it is decision time - either we accept bottom half finish.
Or we drop Bentancur as emergency cover. Ball in Franks court.
Our entire midfield is shit (I like Sarr and Bergvall but they aren’t good enough to carry the whole midfield).

Dropping Bentancur isn’t suddenly going to make these other players better. Just like dropping Johnson didn’t make the other forwards better.

Neither Bentancur nor Johnson are good enough but still play because the other options aren’t much better.

That said, I’d rather watch gray, Sarr, Bergvall and Simons over Bentancur.

Bizarre statement, was instrumental to us getting CL in 2021/22
Erm that was well before Cash broke him. He was an awesome player with great potential before Cash broke him - including many excellent performances in 21/22 - so I've no idea what you mean. The other poster said Bentancur has never been better than a bottom half player - I'm disagreeing with him, I think Bentancur was excellent at times in the past, including 21/22 - what's bizarre about that? Your comment calls mine bizarre, then appears to agree with me - now that's bizarre. :/

I was agreeing with you...

Half a good season of form when Conte squeezed every drop out of us. He was average at juve and has been average most of his time here.
To be fair, you hate most of our players. For me, a more balanced fan, there were times before his injury when I really thought he could be the best MF we've had since Dembele. But the injury ruined that. 😥 (But I don't expect you to see that, you're not capable of looking at our players objectively, we all know that).

He absolutely has. That cunt Cash broke him, he's never been the same player since. :(
No he hasn't. On his own he hasn't.

He looked good cause he took the helm from Sissoko. Bar was not low but on the floor.

Or let me rephrase it - Bentancur could be top half (and even top3 side) starting midfielder. If he'd be exclusively surrounded by exclusively amazing players. Like if he'd be 3rd member in midfield trio with prime-Dembele and prime-Modric. With prime-Kane and prime-Son and prime-Bale being front 3. then we'd be strong enough to carry one very-very average midfielder to that level.

But when he has to carry any real weight then 11th is as high as we go.

It is absolutely gross blasphemy to even mention Bentancur in comparison to Dembele. Like seriously? Lightyears apart in every possible way. One being elegant, unique and physicality monster. Other being bang average midfielder who can turn with the ball once in 5 games. He has always been 10x closer to Harry Winks than Moussa Dembele.

Utter nonsense - there were plenty of games before the injury where he looked excellent, and he didnt have elite players around him during those games. Honestly, sometimes I think some of you are incapable of ever seeing anything good that any of our players ever do. Yes he's been shit recently, and for a long time now, but that doesn't detract from his many excellent performances a few years ago. Should we look elsewhere now? Surely yes, it seems he'll never be the player he was - but for anyone who can't see what he brought in many games before the injuries, I don't know what to tell you, if you couldn't see it, then that's on your limitations, not his.

Yea, of course. I totally agree that this issue is much wider and our midfield in general is not really good enough.
No arguments there.

But just that with likes of Sarr and Bergvall and Gray you can dream of better tomorrow (though right now they are too inconsistent), but with Bentancur you know what you get. And it is not much.
