Once it's knockouts and 2-legged games start the impact of these "blip" results we seem to be consistently having this season are drastically reduced, as there's always the 2nd leg to make amends. There's not a single team I look at in that league stage and think "if we drew them in a knockout we're fucked". The problem with the domestic cups is how psychologically fucked we are against the bigger teams in the league, we can go as far as we want but if we come up against City, Woolwich, Chavs or Liverpool (especially away), we're going out. Not to mention we can qualify for the CL through the EL anyway so realistically the prize money doesn't really matter, I really, really don't want to see us fielding weakened sides in the knockout stages (assuming we get there which I really think we will) because of "that tough trip to Forest on the weekend". Who fucking cares? We aren't winning the league, we have a better chance in the EL than the domestic cups, I'd just start fielding the weakened teams to prepare for the EL games tbh, fuck the league. 2nd rate competition or not if we won it I'd be over the moon.

More to the point, we've lost to Newcastle and Brighton away, neither of which are terrible results in and of themselves, but both had serious injury issues in those respective games and we failed to capitalise on either situation. Leicester are reliant on the ghost of Jamie Vardy and were without a replacement for Dewsbury-Hall when we played them, yet we let them have a point on the opening day. We are the only team in last season's top 8 (other than Chelsea who had to play City in Maresca's first game in charge) that failed to win their opening game. There have been precious few encouraging signs of picking up unexpected points against top 8 sides under Ange, Villa away last season being really the only outlier (I'm not counting United this season, Ten Hag is a dead man walking), Poch was able to afford the odd glaring result against bottom half sides (because he did have a fair few like this game today) because he was making up the points at home against everyone. We are probably on for 6th if we improve consistency in the league, but again who really gives a monkeys if it's 6th or 8th, wouldn't it make it a much easier pill to swallow with a trophy to stick in the cabinet after sixteen fucking years?

We could fuck the league off, but I don't think we defend well enough to win a cup. As soon as we play a streetwise team with good players, we'll get beat. Especially with our away record.

We won't win the Europa League. As soon as we come up against a team with just an inkling of tactical nous we will shrivel and tamely exit the competition.
There are too many strong teams left in the Carabou Cup so that one is gone. That leaves the FA Cup - absolutely no chance.

Jury is still out on big Dom but love his attitude, the kid's a trier. Brennan has scored a few goals, yes, and statistically he didn't do bad at all last year...but still a pretty limited player overall, especially in that role. And God he's lazy. He's a top 8-12 player. Spending 50 mil on him was madness.

Let's have it right...if I'm Glasner and in charge of Palace, I don't start Richy over Mateta, no chance. Richy is a bottom of the PL guy...Everton, Leicester etc. Anyone involved in his transfer should get sacked.

This is the thing, if Eze was more consistent palace wouldn’t have been having such a poor season!
We need a proper DM and even if that player is not Sarr we need to give up on this Maddison , Kulu midfield and stick either Bentancur or Sarr in there with Kulu or MADDs

Palace have had a big physical side for YEARS running now. The side he put out seemed to not reflect that common knowledge.

Im sure we’ll get embarrassed by the first real team we play in that competition- Italian teams have made entire reputations watching teams like us dick around on the ball while patiently waiting to slit our throats on the counter.

As I said, he may not be a perfect fit for the system either, but I would still take him over Kulusevski for that reason. If you are going to suffer similar downside, at least the upside pays off a bit more.

Being a Spurs fan just isn’t that great is the reality , but none of us would change it for all the tea in China . I am resigned to more of the same for the foreseeable future and at peace with it , sad yes , realistic yes

Thing is we paid over the odds for rich, solanki and Johnson. No one else was in for them as far as I can recall. They had no real great pedigree in the PL to warrant that amount of spend. Add in werner who no one wanted not even his own club who couldn’t believe we would pay ALL his wages. Surely there should be some inquiry into this expenditure and have people accountable. Like the goverment have the national audit office. We are never are getting our mo et back on rich, Jonson and Solanke. Either they come good for us or we take a big hit.
