I haven't really watched Bournemouth in a while, but what's so special about Iraola that 20% of this poll want him if Ange goes? Looking at his career stats, he's never really broken 40% wins. And he's lost more than he's won with Bournemouth. I know that's not a great metric, but what's he got going for him?

He's taking on Dippers away tomorrow. Should be a good test of character.

So, I just had a long conversation with GPT o1 (beta) about managers with PL experience who would be a good fit for our current squad and it gave me this summary.

Manager Fit Scores for Tottenham Hotspur

ManagerMid-Season Start
(Jan 2025)End of Season Start
(May 2025)
Graham Potter7/108/10
Roberto De Zerbi6/109/10
Brendan Rodgers8/107/10

Explanation of Scores

Graham Potter

  • Mid-Season Start (7/10):
    • Pros:
      • Immediate Availability: Being out of work, Potter can take over without the complications of negotiating with another club.
      • Adaptability: Known for tailoring his tactics to available players, which is beneficial when inheriting a squad mid-season.
    • Cons:
      • Implementation Time: His possession-based style may require time for players to adjust, potentially limiting immediate impact.
      • Confidence Rebuilding: Following a tough spell at Chelsea, he might need time to regain his managerial confidence.
  • End of Season Start (8/10):
    • Pros:
      • Pre-Season Preparation: Allows time to instill his philosophy and integrate any new signings.
      • Long-Term Planning: Better suited to developing young talents over a full season.
    • Cons:
      • Market Competition: Other clubs might pursue him, increasing competition for his signature.

Roberto De Zerbi

  • Mid-Season Start (6/10):
    • Pros:
      • Tactical Acumen: Could inject new ideas and possibly turn around the season.
    • Cons:
      • Contractual Obligations: Currently managing Marseille, making a mid-season move complex.
      • Disruption Risks: Mid-season changes could disrupt both clubs and may face resistance.
  • End of Season Start (9/10):
    • Pros:
      • Negotiation Window: More time to arrange a smooth transition from Marseille.
      • Philosophical Alignment: His progressive tactics align well with Spurs' attacking talents.
      • Squad Building: Opportunity to tailor the squad during the transfer window.
    • Cons:
      • Adjustment Period: Players may need time to adapt to his intensive playing style.

Brendan Rodgers

  • Mid-Season Start (8/10):
    • Pros:
      • Premier League Experience: Can quickly adapt to the league's demands.
      • Stabilizing Influence: Known for steadying teams and improving performance swiftly.
    • Cons:
      • Availability Concerns: Currently at Celtic; persuading him to leave mid-season may be challenging.
      • Ceiling of Success: Questions about his ability to elevate a team to the highest levels consistently.
  • End of Season Start (7/10):
    • Pros:
      • Strategic Planning: Time to prepare for the new season and shape the squad.
      • Familiarity with Players: Has previously worked with players like James Maddison.
    • Cons:
      • Freshness Factor: May be viewed as a less exciting choice compared to other candidates.
      • Long-Term Fit: Might not align fully with Spurs' ambition for a modern, dynamic playing style.

Overall Assessment

  • Mid-Season Replacement:
    • Best Fit: Brendan Rodgers (8/10)
      • Rationale: His ability to deliver immediate improvements and navigate Premier League challenges makes him the most suitable for a mid-season takeover.
  • End of Season Appointment:
    • Best Fit: Roberto De Zerbi (9/10)
      • Rationale: Offers the highest potential to transform Spurs with his innovative tactics and focus on developing young talent.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right manager depends on Tottenham Hotspur's immediate needs and long-term vision:
  • For Immediate Stability: Brendan Rodgers is well-equipped to steady the ship and push for short-term goals if a change is needed mid-season.
  • For Long-Term Growth: Roberto De Zerbi presents an opportunity to build an exciting, forward-thinking team that could compete at the highest levels in the future.
  • For a Balanced Approach: Graham Potter offers a middle ground with his focus on youth development and adaptable tactics, especially advantageous with a full pre-season.
Ultimately, the decision should align with the club's strategic objectives, considering both the current squad's strengths and the manager's ability to fulfill the club's ambitions.

I then asked it to add In Ange and it gave me this:

ManagerMid-Season Start
(Jan 2025)End of Season Start
(May 2025)
Ange Postecoglou7.5/108.5/10

Iraola it is then

Shouldn’t cost much

I voted for Dyche for mostly gravelly ASMR kink reasons. I also imagine him getting DCL up top with Wood and Solanke for us to become the ultimate 'get it launched' team to satisfy all those annoyed with our current possession stats.

Didn't levy hold talks with him and also Arne slot? I'd say they ran when they saw the budget they were going to have to work with.

......And yet Slot had fuck all to spend when he joined Liverpool this summer (a net minus spend and only a broken Chiesa to show for it.). All the while Ange has had €250m (n) since he arrived.

Meanwhile; Nagglesman turned down us and the Chavs (and his money burning exercise) to manager Germany.

So yeh; evidently, you'd be wrong.

Liverpool didn't need a squad overhaul and Chelsea have cowboys running them.

But... But.... But.....

Anyway, again - my post was tongue in cheek but you seem to have taken it seriously. I've no idea why they turned Levy down, nobody does but them.

Slot does:

"Speaking to the official club website, Slot explained why he snubbed Spurs. He said: "I'm not done here yet. We have had a wonderful season with Feyenoord, with the championship as a wonderful reward for all the hard work that has been put in, but I really want to continue building.

"After the summer, an adventure awaits in the Champions League and there is a national title to defend. Enough to look forward to, so I am proud to be and remain Feyenoord's trainer in Rotterdam.""

Classic case of a manger wanting to finish what he started and enjoy the CL run that he'd earned by winning the title the season before.

Lol this is him speaking to Feyenoord website. Take all that with a pinch of salt.

Again, people laugh at Sean Dyche. But you have to remember that as a club, Everton are absolutely finished. They did well to stay up under Dyche.

I like his no nonsense approach. I think he would instill some grit into us. We have no fight. He’s flexible. He deals with the tools at his disposal.

I genuinely see him being a good manager for Spurs. We’ve had all the fancy names. You cannot tell me Ange is a better manager. Dyche would win the treble with his eyes closed at Celtic.

Give the guy a chance at a bigger club. I genuinely think he’ll give us an identity back

I thought he was an abysmal appointment at Spurs and I remember having a melting moment (kinda similar feelings to Postecoglou appointment) when he was announced, but it’s nice to see him having found his level and doing well.

Don’t know what’s the general view on Forest between Spurs fans but I’ve always seen them as that "legendary" club that won two back to back European cups.
When I think of Forest one player from the 80s (I think) pops up in the back of my head. Trevor Francis (I just hope I remember correctly, that he actually played for Forest, not Stoke)
