Match Southampton vs Tottenham: Sunday 15th Dec Premier League 19:00

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I find it astonishing (although I should have learned by now) how little attention this has got in the media.

The three first choice Centre Backs and Goalkeeper out alone would be an existential crisis at any other club in the world.

If Raya, Saliba, Gabriel, and White were all out for Woolich we would never hear the end of it.

Allison, van Dijk, Konate and Gomez

The world would end
We're not really seen as a top 6 side anymore. ENIC have made a decision to spend at the same approximate level as West Ham and clubs like Villa and Newcastle are clearly more ambitious. We've got our Sugar era Tottenham back.

Liverpool have been missing Allison for chunks and Konate is currently out. They remain comfortably top of the league.

City are having their worst run of form since Pep arrived and are ahead of us.

Woolwich have been mostly lucky but have missed Odegard for a big part of the season and currently have Gabriel out. Comfortably ahead of us.

Injuries happen to everyone. Especially key positions. Of course, there’s no way we are equipped to deal with losses in these positions but they happen.

Not sure of the rules but we need homegrown and if Moore goes on loan does that mean he is not counted as homegrown? Yang is different but apart from Kane &Skipp. who else really did well on loan to get a starting place when they came back.
Fair point.

No right or wrong answer, to be fair. Every kid is different...some will develop more going out on a loan or two, others will benefit more from staying with their parent club even if their gametime will be inferior to what they'd get in the Champo/League One/abroad.

To be honest, I don't mind Mikey or Odobert or Yang or any of the kids sticking around if that's what they & the club think is best for both parties, but no way we should involve more than 2 or 3 (say 4-5 at a push) in the first team regularly...knowing I'm including Archie & Bergvall in that. Let's keep in mind that dudes like Udogie & Brennan are hardly grown men, heck even Kulu is only 24, Radu 22...and we've seen how we've struggled this season & last due to their lack of maturity.

Whatever bs the big fella & his master wanna try & force-feed us, the obvious truth is that we desperately need experienced winners and proper leaders at Spurs, especially if we gonna integrate them kids by the handful. If you look at Barcelona, they always find the right balance...the Gavis and Yamals are always surrounded by the Piques, Busquets, Lewandowskis. But yeah, obviously it helps big time that from the top down, that club (like Bayern, Real, Inter, Juve, City, Pool...) is obsessed about winning on the football pitch and they deliver year in year out. Kids know they don't push themselves and just rely on their talent, they'll be out the door in a jiffy.

Rishi Sunak, Rupert Lowe, your boys took one helluva beating...

:ange-facepalm:

They’d need someone to help them avoid relegation.

Premier League Sam GIF by Play Sports
Not impossible, Big Sam never is a total no-go with clubs in that sorry position So'ton find themselves in. But I think he's got too much baggage nowadays. Moyes and Southgate, though they too play pragmatic footy, remain a bit sexier.

Also entirely possible the Saints will go for an exotic appointment, like a Spaniard or Portuguese or Italian guy who plays attractive ball. But they still don't have the roster for it, which is how they sacked Martin in the first place.

I wish them well regardless, really don't mind Southampton. Many other teams I'd rather see relegated before them.

When you have a weak squad relative to the league you have to play Moyes style football. Kompany killed the championship with Burnley playing Pep ball but then got killed himself in the prem doing the same.

Pep style football works the best if you have a 1-4th best squad in the league, then it dominates. If you have anything less it is far to risky as you don’t have the players to execute.

There is a reason Pep never takes on clubs who don’t have elite talent. He isn’t stupid.

I think a friend of a friend might stand a chance to get interviewed for this job.

He’s currently at West Brom but definitely on the radar of premier league clubs.

Credit where Credit is due. The team was superb but some perspective. This Southampton team is probably the worst I've seen in the PL era and I've seen 94/94 Swindon, 07/08 Derby and last seasons Sheff Utd. Let's see where we are after the next 3 games. This win doesn't change my view. We need to change course.
Agreed. Did our job and put them to the sword. Big positives again were Gray, Bergvall and Spence.

If we send back Werner, bench Son, sell Richie, and replace with an elite winger and no.9 we will start to look a good team.

Starting to think Gray might develop into the dominant no6 we've missed since Dembele left.

He is going to be a proper player for us. The fact hes trusted to fill in anywhere at 18 and he does not hide or shrink when tested says it all. Always available and willing to take the ball and play with no nerves.
Would love to see him in midfield once we have defenders back. Much more composed and looks more press resistant to me than Biss

We still haven't seen a team go through a whole season without winning a match. I don't know what we would call it but it would be the opposite of the Invincibles.

Derby came pretty close but they still managed to sneak one win.

Who cares about being seen as a Top 6 team? It's a fucking meaningless tag invented by Sky Sports to accommodate the fact the Goons started falling out of the Top 4.

We don't get trophies or any form of respect for being in this mythical "top 6". In fact it ends up being a stick to beat us with, "the only one of the big six to never win anything"

Fuck the idea of "big six". I want trophies.
