I was just reading 'The Glory Game' - quality book if you've got a few spare hours.

In it, a song that's mentioned is 'Gilzean, Gilzean, Gilzean, Gilzean! Born is the king of White Hart Lane!' to the tune of Noel, Noel (the Christmas Carol). I thought if we brought this back with 'Ledley' instead of 'Gilzean', that would make me shit my pants with sheer happiness.

What other songs have Spurs used in the past that could be brought back?

This idea was knocking about a few years back but sadly it never took off. Shame really, I think it'd be a quality song and Ledley deserves a song that doesn't reference the racist or that other Judas cunt

Oops. Sorry Smolik. Maybe I should've read down before replying to the OP.

At least we agree. :-)

"We'll take more care of you Archibald.."
Sung to the tune of the British Airways ad.

Unfortunately the ad hasn't been aired for nearly 30 years and we have no players called Archibald.
But if the ad was brought back and we signed someone called Archibald, it would be fantastic.

It's a current one as well as old, but one I've been told by a supposed Spurs fan that "is a Celtic song" and not sung by ours, despite me talking about it to him, so maybe it isn't sung enough now, but I like "it's a grand old team to play for, it's a grand old team to see..."

While i like that chant to me it is always a celtic song, Just like European teams singing You'll Never Walk always reeks of Liverpoo to me. A few certain songs, especially those based on quotes about winning european cups, should be left to the fans of the club involved.

"We are the Tottenham boys" is a Rangers song

"Oh when the Spurs" is a Southampton song

"Glory, glory... " well, that one is still up for originality debate but plenty claim it (United the obvious ones, although I don't believe them)

"Super Tottenham, from the lane" is again claimed by others (Millwall, etc.)

Van der Vaart's was a Nasri song

"And it's Tottenham Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur FC" was again arguably scum influenced

and the list goes on...

Point is unfortunately it is a bit late for us to get the hump over originality. My personal favourite is "Spurs are on their way to Wembley" because of how unique it is though. Perhaps some more Chas N Dave ones should be attempted like Hot Shot Tottenham, although most of the decent ones are pretty match specific and harder to get going.

Your right, but like i said there are just a few chants that really can't ever be re-appropriated by another team in my opinion. 'For it's a grand old team to play for' is just one of them for me.

It's silly to get caught up on where a chant started. But when it's so attached to a single moment and place i just find it strange.

I think we need some of this next season minus any double reference preferably:
'In the North London Cup, They was only Runners Up, Now they can't get the double up the Arse... anal'

Yeah the club played the North London cup one when we beat them 5-1 which I thought was a nice touch at the time. Even if they put more stuff like Can't Smile Without You over the tannoy it might inspire some old school support again.

Regarding Glory Glory Hallelujah, I buy our stories of it but only because I don't listen to the others...

Strangely enough somebody at the back of Block 32 tried to start this one off during the Bolton rearranged FA Cup game.

He was met with a bemused silence.

Was there... heard the deafening silence! (he was pissed off his hat though!)

Maybe it was 'cos he replaced 'Archibald' with 'Mu-am-ba'???
