Match Spurs Vs Liverpool - Carabao Cup Semi Final 1st Leg. 8pm, Weds 8th Jan.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

AP has only repeated what he's been told for the last 2 months by PGMOL. As such is the case, his view isn't debatable at all, and cynical fouls are completely relevant.

Considering the fact that we've been on the receiving end of these calls repeatedly, we were not lucky in the slightest.

I've been so angry at matches these last 2 months because of the multiple times ref's haven't come back and booked players for drag backs with us on the break but our players don't dive like rat face Dias.

Turns out all my swearing was for nothing because apparently it's protocol now. Nobody told us. No media or pundit mentioned it when it happened to Spurs. But the MOMENT it happens to Liverpool it's a fucking crisis :roflmao:

I can’t stop laughing at Mr Van Dick 😂

Dirty tackle of van Dijk on Solanke.

As the replay shows, Solanke clearly had the ball under control and Van Dijk comes in from behind with his studs high, pressing down on the Tottenham forward's calf. Per FA Law 12, S1 and S2 a player can be sent off for 'serious foul play' and 'violent conduct'.

With Van Dijk clearly not close to the ball and with his studs raking down the back of Solanke's leg, there could certainly be a case made for a red card. It will serve as a major source of frustration for Spurs fans then that VAR failed to even check the potentially dismissable offence.

That point he makes at the end about the "rule" on only cynical fouls incurring a yellow card is spot on. I've been screaming about it at games for weeks and only just learned tonight that now protocol.

Wish they'd tell us these things ffs
Indeed, even last night I was miffed that Jones hadn't got a yellow after he tried to stop an attack and we got given the advantage.

Would have been helpful if the FA/PL had made that knowledge public. Maybe they did and it just hasn't been picked up by media/fans?

Great work!

Ange, in using the word "cynical" is using shorthand, rather than referring to the laws of the game. What he is likely referring to as "cynical" is unsporting behaviour designed to interfere with a promising attack (and doing so), in which case a booking is issued. Bergvall's offence was not in these terms "cynical", nor did it interfere materially with a promising attack. The question is whether Bergvall's offence was bookable in terms of it being a reckless challenge, which I think there is a good argument it was (it was late).

A relevant section from the laws :

"If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play. However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned."

I don't disagree for a minute we've had our share of bad luck / decisions (including Bergvall's first yellow), but that doesn't mean the laws of the game get re-written!

Fucking hell? Why on earth wasn't more made of this? Horrendous tackle. As bad as the Fulham one which VAR did send off.

It’s - Spurs bias here - all too typical. Dirty little fouls unpunished, constantly, followed by a yellow card for one of our first fouls… and repeat.

Agreed. Though we also need to get better at the dirty little fouls ourselves.

I'm actually really pleased Ange is calling out how games are being officiated more and want to see him influence the ref more from the touchline.

Couldn't bear that horrible "we'll cop it" stance from last season. Copping it is very noble. And leads to getting spanked. No thanks.

Diaz should have been sent off. He punch Porro in the head and then minutes later dived to try and get a pen. They were two yellows yet he got nothing. During the match their players were doing so many little fouls yet the ref didn’t clamp down on it. They did it in the league game too. That’s what Ange should have fought back with in the post match press conference.

One of the worst was VVD raking Dom’s calf!!!

Sneaky cowardly challenge made by a cunt!
