Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Player ratings from PompeyLive and LancsLive respectively:GW3

Dane Scarlett - 8

(Replaced by Joe Pigott on 67 minutes): Proved a constant thorn in the side. A real livewire who the Cheltenham defence will be glad to see the back of.

Troy Parrott - 8

A tireless and selfless display from him up top. Was a focal point for PNE all game and linked play up fantastically. Never stopped making himself available and running for the team. Had a chance to kill the match at the end.

(Might try and post these every week if I remember)

Jamie Donley contract - until June 2027 !

Long contract for a youngster - shows Club faith in Donley who can play either as a no 9 or no 10

Excellent news and good luck to Jamie who is very much a Spurs fan, been at Spurs since age 8

Harvey White and Dane Scarlett not starting for their respective third tier teams !!

Hopefully Derby manager would have seen the same as the local journalist

A good addition

The Spurs midfielder Harvey White arrived on deadline day in what was Derby's final signing of the January window, but it did not take him long to show us why the Premier League side rate him so highly.

He was on the pitch for 30 minutes and almost crowned a sizzling cameo with a goal only for Korey Smith to block his volley which
looked destined to find the back of the net.

He also drew a save from Conor Ripley from a free-kick which showed his quality from deadball situations. But what was most impressive was his awareness. He kept checking his rear-view mirrors to make sure nobody was in and around him whenever he received the ball.

It was an excellent cameo from the 21-year-old who on this showing alone has already catapulted him into contention for a start at Wycombe next week. First impressions count for a lot and White certainly showed us why Spurs are excited about his potential. The deadline day addition looks like a very shrewd move indeed.

Absolutely.
I think people thought that just because Harry did it then Parrott and Scarlett would automatically follow suit.
Never played with anyone who made it past third tier standard and I thought he was insanely good compared to the rest of us Sunday cloggers. The incremental steps to go up from there are reserved for very, very few.

Nobody following youth has ever said anything any different.

But there has been criticism from many youth watchers (not just Spurs) of the abandonment of loans at Spurs as a means to develop youth from age 18 to 21 which means that there has been almost zero chance of developing youth at Spurs for near 10 years. Skipp's loan at Norwich is as near perfect as one could wish for development, and exactly why it should be being repeated, although by and large it is not.

The development of youth should not only get a few players into Spurs first team, not many and even one every 2 years would be good. For those who get on loan but are not at Spurs level afterwards, many will find a football career in lower leagues or other clubs - Poch made circa £100m from selling on players developed before he arrived before stopping any loans - players including Townsend, Veljkovich, Carroll, Mason, Fredericks et al. The almost perfect example of the alternative development (or not) of youth has to be buying an 18 year old Foyth for £10m, training with first team only (no loans), gives away 2 penalties on his debut through lack of experience, and after 16 games over 4 years before being sold on to Villareal where he's looked better through being played.

For those that think Spurs are too big to develop youth, ManU has a far better record in recent years of developing youth.

Of the current loanees, White should have been loaned out 3 years ago rather than merely training with first team for last 18 months or so, means chances of him making it now aged 21, is low, Parrott seems not to have kicked on (possibly lack of personal drive/other distractions), whilst Scarlett is still aged 18 so too early to make a judgement. But 3 out on loan is ridiculous - we should be having 6-10 out on loan, its a numbers game, to have a good chance of another player being good enough to get to Spurs first team. In short a revamp of the youth system is probably needed

Epic stuff about Moore.

Have high hopes for Herbie, not least because that was my Grandad’s name!

We have a great 5-6 talents now, who could all possibly make it here.

Much improved from 12-18months ago.

Yes we have a few very good footballers.

Its now down to manage them in all sorts of ways - keeping them grounded, coaching them to improve on their talents, giving them the right playing time at the right time - testing them but not over-stretching them etc

Sounds easy, but its not - as an example we won the race to sign Scott Thyer a decade ago who had looked the best player on the pitch by a landslide playing as Wales Centre Forward in an England u16 v Wales u16 fixture. All started well with him playing a few pre-season matches for Spurs u21's (as a 16 year old) and then starting to play u18's, but then less frequently. Behind the scenes apparently he often didn't turn up to train or of he did he was late, became quite disruptive and astonishingly was released after 12 months into his scholarship. He went back to Swansea his home town but after again becoming disruptive he was let go and disappeared from football completely ....... even though at the time he was being heralded as the best Welsh footballer of his generation !

It was not a good time for Spurs academy either - in the same year group Spurs had recruited Terry Dixon ...... the Irish Wayne Rooney ! Sadly he dislocated his knee early on and despite a lengthy time out it never fully recovered and his knee kept dislocating , and after a couple of years he was released. He tried coming back several times, notably with West Ham, but eventually had to settle for part time non league football where he played whenever fit (maybe 30% - 50% of games).

So its a long road from signing top talent (and many rate Mikey Moore as best E u16 for a few years) to even close to the first team,

Time to cross fingers for a few years ! And enjoy watching youth football !

Not very impressive. Haven't been impressed by our fullbacks at youth level at all the last few years, this Ashcroft lad is very poor. Cesay has a jink in him, but doesn't really look a serious player to me. Sayers looks decent, Fagan Walcott would be a good player if blessed with a bit more pace. Craig is neat and tidy, hard to see him playing at a high level. Mundle is skillful, we'll see if he can add goals this season. I like Nile John, lots of talent, but he'd probably be better off contracted to a Championship team, in who's interest it is to develop him. Donley has talent, very strong frame, just 17, hopefully he grows into the season. Santiago is not up to much. Devine looked a bit fed up tonight imo, he knows you don't learn much playing at that level. Don't like the way our underage teams play to be honest.. something very bland and predictable about all that safe passing
