I wonder if this goes down as one of the more bizarre announcements seen, unless I'm being uncharitable.

I was sure he was off 18 months ago when he was on trial at Derby, and pleased for him that he'd found a better club than I'd expected.

Possibly overcome some personal adversity, so the club are giving him every chance in return?

He has certainly been injured a lot in last 2 years - but I thought he was likely to be released 2 years ago before being injured !

Always a tricky one - keeping on players for longer than we should versus giving younger ones the chances they have earned.

DOB 21/6/2004 so just turned 19. Has been captain a few times so maybe leadership qualities.

Academy players on tour:
Austin
Devine
Kane
Keeley
Scarlett
Skipp
Tanganga
White
Whiteman
In previous pre-season tours, we've taken quite a few younger players who seemed nowhere near the first team squad - eg Fagan-Walcott & Sayers to Korea last year (although we were short of CBs IIRC).

So one way of considering this list is that England U20 World Cup players Devine & Scarlett are arguably the youngsters closest to staking a claim in our PL squad, and have a real chance of impressing Ange.

I think it’s because we’ve got way too many first team squad players plus a new manager who hasn’t worked with a lot of them . He wants to look at them all and make decisions on the future.

Also, given this, it may be better for the likes of Craig, Santiago, Abbott & the rest of our promising youngsters to play pre-season U23 matches, or whatever the Academy / Development pre-season schedule has lined up.

Whoever shines in pre-season Academy matches could then be integrated into the wider first team squad once the Asian pre-season tour is over, and our transfer dealings are further along.

But I still suspect taking Devine & Scarlett on tour is because Ange wants to assess their level playing with established first team players.

Several of the youth candidates for the tour out with injuries....... plus of course the number of first team squad players in the touring squad of which a good half dozen are unlikely to be with Spurs at end of August being either transferred permanently or on loan by end of the window

Torn quad for George Abbott could be quite a long term injury - months rather than weeks, I would suspect.

Any medical experts are welcome to correct my suspicion.
