Tactics Starting 11 for the 22/23 season?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

For me, Emerson Royal is one of the worst RBs I have ever seen in my life. He offers absolutely nothing - can't cross, can't shoot and his marking is shocking. He floats about on the pitch and relies heavily on the rest of the defence to bail him out every time. Whenever he's defending, he's always 2 metres away from the attacker so doesn't even get close. A complete liability, it's like us playing with 10 men. I would sell him in a shot.

Back to the thread, I can see this team happening at some point which is mouthwatering:

Lloris

Lenglet/Davies
Dier
Romero

Perisic
Hojbjerg/Bissouma
Bentancur
Kulusevski

Son
Kane
Richarlison
That would be a quality side to watch, would fancy them to keep the ball brilliantly and create chances, issuing a few wallops along the way

Following is based on who I think Conte will play v Southampton, not specifically what the strongest XI may be.

Lloris

Romero
Dier
Davies

Doherty
Hojbjerg
Bentancur
Perisic

Kulusevski
Kane
Son

Certainly a strong argument for Bissouma to be thrown straight in but think Conte may start with the majority that got top 4

I really rate him, he’s a tremendous player but I also rate Skipp and Bissouma highly and as much as I think PEH is overrated, he was excellent alongside Benta in the second half of the season.

I don’t think any of those four are guaranteed starters personally - certainly wasn’t a backlash far from it
Fair enough, apologies, that KaneUnable clown made me a bit grouchy.

We are still 3 high quality first team players to have a world class team,

RWB - Hakimi?
CCB - Torres ?
CM - Paqueta?

I will not have any expectation for any success for this team if the likes of Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Emerson, Doherty are still anywhere near the starting team.

We need to be more ruthless when cleaning out low quality players out of the first team.

We played 3-4-3 almost the entire time we’ve been under Conte? Do you even watch the games?

We already have 5 signings and you want 3 more starters signed. So clearly out of touch with reality.

Also Bissouma is more defensive minded than Bentancur, who is probably the least defensive out of our 4 CMs. So that answers the first question.

Conte's favourite formation is 352.

We couldn't play that formation last season because Skipp got injured, Gio and Tanguy were loaned out which meant Harry Wanks became our 3rd best CM.

Going into new season Conte will have enough quality CMs to play his favorite 532.

I put Rodrigo at the base because he is the best passer, not the best defensive minded.

I don't why so many have Bentancur in the starting 11. He clearly had a rough last month of the season. While he "looks" like the most progressive of the 4 CM's that deserve any playing time, he hasn't proven it on the pitch (he hasn't scored in 2+ years). For me, it has to be Bissouma (playing box-to-box) and Hojbjerg (who was excellent under Conte).

See quite a few people putting Lenglet into their starting 11. I think Davies was a rock toward the end of last season and definetly deserves his starting spot. Lenglet also had a terrible season with Barca, hence why their fans aren’t feeling too aggrieved he’s leaving so if he wants to play, he’ll need to prove himself. He’s good cover at the very least

I also think Doherty will be given another shot because he was in great form until he got injured
I was with you (re Davies) but then you had to spoil it by giving Doherty another chance.

Without Bentancur we don't make top 4. None of our midfielders have to be progressive, that's not their job in a Conte system (that duty belongs to the WBs). They just have to be press resistant and be able to distribute the ball quickly and efficiently, which is where Bentancur became good at once he got used to the EPL pace.
