HITCHENS IN OR OUT?

Hitchen would have left or been binned off ages ago, the only reason he stuck around is because he was a complete yes man to Levy, let's be real
Therein lies the biggest issue primarily. Ultimately Hitchen is probably a good talent spotter, but all these hyped up scouts have pretty mixed records, particularly when sending larger sums. But the ones who do beat are the ones with a modicum of gravitas who can manage upwards as well as downwards. It’s all well and good saying ‘Hitchen was never properly backed otherwise he’d have been a success’. Levy has always been careful about spending. But the people who got him to spend were those with the balls to push back when he started to go all Levy. And they still had mixed records attracting players, but they also managed to get in quality. Baldini, Redknapp, Comilli, Arnesen, they knew how to work Levy. This guy either just did what the manager wanted (Ndombele, Lo Celso) or did what Levy told him to.

The role needs a man, not a mouse.

Am I the only person who thought the overreaction to his All or Nothing comments was cringe ? A bit low EQ.

It was clearly dry humour he was using about what is a difficult time.

I’ll miss Mitchell. Always good to have talent about the place but I’m not surprised his position has been made untenable by Paratici.

I agree with that, it took on a life of its own that was a bit over the top.

At the same time, our transfer business is abysmal, I don't think he's ever spoken publicly besides that, and he didn't really come off as a guy that was going to get things done.

So I'm not surprised it came to dominate the public perception of him when our business was so consistently bad. There's plenty of people who have difficult jobs and the more difficult the job is, the less you want that person publicly complaining about how hard their job is. It just really doesn't inspire confidence.

I didn’t perceive it as Hitchen complaining. It was a dry quip about how tough January is. That’s the reality of the window and it was good to hear a statement of the bleeding obvious from someone at the forefront.

That whole documentary was a mess and symptomatic of how we’ve lost our way since the CL final.

I don't think there's anything factually wrong with what he said, but it's not the best look for him to be saying it.

It's his job and responsibility for which he's paid handsomely and in one of his few public statements he's talking about how hard it is before preceding to sign Gedson. I'm not surprised supporters latched onto it, it's not exactly ideal management of your public persona.

Thanks for Gedson, sweet prince.

We'll never forget you.

Especially when you consider what happened when he joined Stoke in 2017! Started the season really badly and was clearly unfit. Mark Hughes got sacked in the January of Wimmer's first season and Paul Lambert said Wimmer wasn't fit and put him on 'a special fitness regime' and he didn't play for the rest of the season (or ever again for Stoke) and Stoke got relegated for the first time in 10 years. The following season they loaned him to Hannover 96 who also got relegated from the Bundesliga. Hannover had a buy clause if he played at least 24 games but he only played 22 so he went back to Stoke. Then got loaned to Mouscron in the Belgiumish top div where the season ended because of covid. And then in 20/21 they loaned him to German second division team ... before he left on a free last year!

So he joined us for £4.3m, played 13 league games in 2 seasons for us, we then sold him for £18m where he only played 14 league games over 4 seasons and left for nothing! Madness

Yeah the reaction was silly, he was saying something that really I don’t believe anyone fundamentally disagrees with apart from a few people on tv who are clearly hired for their vast football expertise 🙄 and of course the agents.

However, he fundamentally was doing a job that I’m pretty sure every Spurs fan would kill to do, and being paid for it very handsomely, so the options were not great.

I think he was a victim of being a bit too honest in the documentary. Quite frankly, he also came off as stressed out, exhausted, and in over his head.

It's great documentary filmmaking as I think it is likely capturing how most people involved in arranging difficult high-stakes transfer feel during the window, but it's not reassuring when you're watching as a fan.

Combine that with our miserable transfer record since he's been with the club and the public perception solidified pretty firmly that he was the stressed out tired bald bloke who looked like he was liable to kill a man for the relief of one drag off a cigarette, as portrayed in the documentary, rather than a high-level behind the scenes transfer powerbroker as we imagine them.
