I think we will sign Erikson. I think he will be an improvement. I don't know where there is in the team for Siggy. I like him and want him to do well, but I don't see him getting ahead of others in the squad to be honest.

Kranjcar MKII supersub, though I think Niko was the better player tbh but Siggy has time to improve, he showed flashes at the end of last season that's why I was hoping he'd hit the ground running but he seems to get outmuscled very easily.

Lamela's natural position is behind the striker, Roma moved him out wide because totti plays in that hole.. We dont know how avb will utilise him but seeing how bale started on the left in most games but interchanged with Dempsey, and how lamela is being purchased to replace bale, we may see that happening with him too..

Interesting, cheers. How old was he when he started at Roma? I mean wasn't he like 12 when he signed for them? I'm just wondering when he played behind the striker, sounds like something we need at the moment.

I agree they will drop a bit, but that far? Ferguson did choose Moyes and will still be there behind the scenes.

Their points total last season: 89 (champions), the season before 89 (second), before that 80 points (champions). Faltering a bit is what, dropping 10 points? That's still 7 points clear of our record points total last season.

Notice I didn't set any numerical value for the degree of their drop, I just think they also fall into the category of teams most people have predicted above us whom for each of their various reasons could finish below us because of the reasons I stated. I could be completely wrong, but I feel we could finish ahead of them more easily that most people think.

A big part of Man Utd's success has always been the fact that they don't do losing runs. Sure Ferguson lost some games here and there, but three games on the trot? He always knew how to re-instil the core belief he had in the players and turn it around when they lost a game.

I don't think Moyes has that. He can't call on the 'I'm Sir Alex Ferguson, I don't lose' factor. If Utd lose three games in a row the narrative would become Moyes can't hack it, they never lost like this under Fergie. The players may well turn under that pressure.

And I think Utd can lose three or four games in a row this season. The squad may have won the title, but a large part of that was down to Van Persie, and Ferguson's meticulous planning. He may have had to call on Carrick at centre half a few times last season, but he never let the deficiencies in the squad expose the holes that are there.

Their best centre backs are both old and injury prone. Their midfield is very unbalanced. The shield is basically Carrick or Darren Fletcher (and who knows when he can play, or how much). A few injuries, a few losses and the media gets to bite. I'm not sure the squad would rally under Moyes as they would have under Ferguson.

I still think they'll finish high. In fact I think Chelsea are the most vulnerable of the 'Big 3', but I don't think they are certs for a challenge this season. They are definitely vulnerable if the fates conspire.

signed for Roma in 2011 from River, not sure his "natural" position is behind the striker but I reckon switching to 433 we'll see him on the right cutting in with Chadli on the left, Soldado center and Eriksen and Pauli joining the attack dictating our play from midfield

lol embarrassment of riches :levywtf:

Thank you for beautifully writing out what my exhausted brain couldn't fathom to manage. Excellent post, and absolutely correct IMO.

I doubt he'll get much look in at CAM if at all with Eriksen incoming and Holtby on his way back. He does his best work on the wing anyway.

He joined Roma 2 seasons ago, played 30 or so games for river plate before that in the number 10 role, messi plays there too so he's forced out wide when playing for Argentina. he did manage 15 goals playing on the wing last season though.

I didn't mean to place one there, but considering it if pretty much the same team as last season I think it is an important point. Hopefully we do overtake them, but we'll need to improve our home form against weaker teams.

Can't agree with ya more. The home ground of a team pushing for top four should be dreaded by every side in the league. The positive however, is the way we held our ground against Swansea this past weekend. Strong opponent, first home game of the season, one goal lead. In recent years, that was the recipe of disaster for Spurs. I've said it too many times already, but our team's move to hold the high line instead of parking the bus displayed outright confidence (as opposed to the nerves at home last year, especially when holding close leads) and enabled us to continue imposing our will on a game that was never going to look anything but ours. Absolutely fantastic to see such a mentality this early in the season, and even more so after how many points we conceded due to the lack thereof last year in particular.

Oh Niko...you're so dreamy.

Lamela was moved out wide because their crazy coach Zeman's system was a 4-3-3 that he refused to adapt. That means even Totti didn't play in the hole. Even the season before with Luis Enrique, Lamela was put on the the wing because of him skills. it worked wonderfully for both coaches. He may have started off as a CAM but I think he is best on the wing where he can used his dribbling ability to run at defenders. and cut in on his much stronger left foot. When Zeman got fired, interim coach Andreazzoli continued to play him on the right because he was so successful. I have a feeling that AVB sees him as a right winger as well.

POINT OF PARLIMENTARY PROCEDURE!

IN REGARDS TO ALL OF OUR RECENT TRANSFER MARKET SIGNINGS, I PASS A MOTION TO DISPENSE WITH THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON AND GRANT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR THE LEAGUE TITLE.

DO I HAVE A SECOND?
