Chairman - We have no interest in selling Saido
WEST Bromwich Albion have today rejected an offer for Saido Berahino from Tottenham Hotspur.
Chairman Jeremy Peace commented: “We have no interest in selling Saido which is what I have told Daniel Levy.
“However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.
“We are going forward with Saido very much in our plans and still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad.”

“I know we are living in an age where no club can say ‘never’ about the possibility of selling a player.

Aka - "Give me more money, bitch"

“However, the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda.

"I totally didn't spend £15 million on his striker replacement, and don't have 5 strikers on my books..."

still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad.”

"We have too many strikers, sorry Saido. Adios my friend."

Basically bullshit and rhetoric. Not sure why he would even bother. He'd deliver his wife to Levy for £20 mil.

"You have to play better because if you don't play football anymore then they can put more pressure on you, get more guys in the box, and it's very difficult."

"At Southampton, Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin put good pressure so they didn't have time to put the ball in the box - it makes it easier for defenders," he said.

He doesn't specifically state, "I need more cover from my midfield" though, does he? Headline is completely different from the quote...

Such a bizarre thing for West Brom to publicly come out and say they've rejected a bid and even name the club that bid!

Maybe they're not selling him after all...

Would be pretty stupid of them to do this, if they end up selling him!

I think it's a smart move by Levy to put a lower bid in to start. Forcing WBA to public will then get Berahino thinking of what he wants. He told Pulis in January that he wanted to move to a bigger club, maybe Levy is showing Berahino that we are interested and it might force Berahino to hand in a transfer request.

Of course I could be wrong and Levy could just be being stingy! Throw it at QPR for Austin!

In the current market £15m is an almost offensively low bid for Berahino. I presume they've put in in the public domain to create pressure on Levy to increase it to something more realistic like £20m+.

Looks to me like a low budget Gareth Bale to Real Madrid saga to me. We bought players for big money before selling him and came out and said we werent selling him.

Fast forward the end of the window and what we all knew would happen happened. Bale was sold.

West Brom have done exactly the same. We will sign Berahino but it will be the very last day.

posturing ??

Doesn't this contradict the rhetoric that Pulis was coming out with earlier in the window...? Oh, and the fact they broke their transfer record for Rondon in a well-stocked rota of strikers.
:gallashmm:

I bet Levy hates that they went public immediately.

Almost certainly done to make us up our bid - with the additional factor of alerting the Manchester clubs to what we're doing and test if they're interested.
Shady mother fuckers.

Are WBA setting Berahino up to be the 'bad guy' ? Chairman can say he did everything to stop the sale - but Berahino forced it.

"West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes, sources have told ESPN FC.
Tottenham have targeted a move for Berahino as Mauricio Pochettino looks to add to his attacking options and sources have told ESPN FC that the White Hart Lane outfit are increasingly confident of securing a deal for Berahino."

it's Tottenham and Daniel Levy that we are talking about. It's more a João Moutinho to Spurs then a Bale to Real Madrid :freund:
