So would you drop Alli or Eriksen for this potentially fatal left side?
Yes, Alli, for a plan B. Dele's technical ability is fantastic, also his link-up play, but he has problems if he's up against a quality right-back. He sometimes lack a bit of pace. This was the case against Clyne and Liverpool for example, he pretty much nullified him.

Insigne would stretch defenses and give Eriksen and Lamela more space in the middle, while occupying the left side of the field. He is the only winger I can think of and is 'affordable'.

The way Poch likes us to play would have no room for an out and out winger. The full backs are key for width in our system. Eriksen and Lamela both roam inside to link and create. So we would need another backup playmaker if anything, that can also be comfortable playing as a 'wide player' and ultimately being able to drift in and create chances. IMO, when they've been on song, Lamela has been outstanding at this, rather then being the inside forward he was at Roma, where he scored more, but created less. BUT, as an alternative plan, to unlock stubborn deep defences, maybe a wide player is an option.
Who knows?

Kevin Volland from hoffenheim, young German, plays right wing or as a striker or Julian Brandt from leverkusen 19 year old winger lighting up bundesliga

If memory suits me right, Insigne is a left footed wide player who could very well adapt to the more inside forward/playmaker type roles we use quite well as well. The thing for me with him is his sheer lack of stature, the guy is seriously tiny and would get bullied in the EPL I feel.

Premier League: 10 talking points from the weekend

2) Pochettino wants internal summer upgrade

Tottenham’s ultimate owner, Joe Lewis, was in the White Hart Lane crowd on Sunday, for the 2-1 defeat by Southampton and it felt appropriate to ask Mauricio Pochettino whether there were any plans for a collective pow-wow with regard to the summer, when the club will seek to tune up ahead of next season. The manager replied that he had “never spoken” with Lewis but Pochettino seemed clear that there would be no need for major surgery in the summer transfer window. It is obvious that Tottenham need and will surely sign a striker (or two), with even Pochettino being on record to this effect. West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino remains a target, as does Fulham’s Moussa Dembele. With a Champions League group phase campaign looming, it feels as though Tottenham could benefit from beefing up in one or two other areas, while it is always a good idea to strengthen from a position of strength – to avoid any resting on laurels. But it was interesting to hear Pochettino’s take on how he envisages the summer.

“We are clear about where we need to improve and how, but that doesn’t mean we need to add players,” Pochettino said. “It means different things. The same players we already have need to move on and improve in different situations – tactically and mentally. If we really want to fight to win the league next season, we need to improve. We need to be more aggressive and kill games but we are young. I feel very proud of our players and we are still improving. We need to be critical with ourselves in order to improve next season.” David Hytner

“We need to be more aggressive and kill.” David Hytner

I fixed his quotes so the Sun can quote him after Dembele finally takes Costas eye next year.

I'd take Shane Long as a back up, or a partner for Kane

Thought he ran his bollocks off yesterday and was a perpetual thorn in Alderweireld's side (which is no mean feat).

However, he's older than I thought (29), and we should forget about trying to sign any Southampton players anytime soon - unless we want to overpay massively.
:levywtf:

The best thing to do is follow the Saints template of bringing a lower profile striker in his late 20s who can develop a bit and be perfect Kane backup; and have him in addition to whatever marquis striker signing we make (Lacazette, Batshauyi, etc).

go on? why not? hassled and gave our defence a good run in. Has goals, has good ability.. good in the air. We aint gunna be signing some mega bucks striker when we play a lone striker system. Long would be a good addition. Proven prem player

It was a harsh reaction, was just a surprising suggestion given the quality of back up strikers we are being linked with. It's not like you said John McGinn he who shall not be named.

yup! But, even though we lost to them.. we are a step up! and we can offer Champions League football. Does Poch know him from Soton?

Decent return! I rate him

2005 Cork City 2 (0)
2005-2011 Reading FC 203 (54)
2011-2014 West Bromwich 87 (22)
2014 Hull City 17 (4)
2014- Southampton 71 (20)

Those aren't terribly high numbers for a striker though. Is he often played wide as well? Does he get many assists? I'm not saying he needs to match Kane's numbers, that would be crazy, but is he a step up from anyone else who we could sign?

Proven to not be very good.

Pochettino's already gone over the things he wants in a forward. Pace, an ability to play wide or central, a strong work rate off the ball and defensively. And if you're going to be a striker for us, you need to be able to average about 4 shots a game.

There are a lot of guys out there who can give all of that. Shane Long can't.

I'll give you that he works his ass off hassling defenders and running channels. Also that he has a decent/good ability in front of goal and goal return.

However there's a world of difference between Soton who score quite a few of their goals on the counter and us where teams sit deep. His ability at interplay and creating in small spaces is nowhere near good enough for us imho.

Oh, and where in the world did you get the idea that he's good in the air?:chadliwtf:

fair enough, but I think he adds a back up plan! We don't seem to have any.. and every time we shoot and we gain a corner.. I know it's not gunan lead to a goal! 80 mins played and need a goal, he's the type of player you'd like to bring on.

Pochettino played 2 strikers, Lambert and Rodriguez, at Southampton.
I'm pretty sure there are quotes out there by him saying that if he has two good strikers he will find a way of playing them both.
