Sorry CK,
Because levy is only interested in breaking even or making profit? Squad numbers, manager satisfaction, team spirit, fan satisfaction all play second fiddle.
Depends on how may players you want in the squad and how many you can pay.
Simple fact is we can't afford to have players sitting around collecting 30-60k a week who are not going to feature.
We are not Man City.
Pochettino may feel our youngster are good enough, I don't know.
One thing is certain, Levy is not selling the players unless the manager wants them to be sold. We would not be selling them if the manager wasn't having his replacements, either from signings our from within.
If Levy is refusing to buy players and balancing the books selling players the manager wants in the squad then he ( Pochettino) will be off.
Why didn't Pochettino state in Australia that Mason & Chadli, as well as Pritchard, Bentalaeb and Fazio, were not in his plans?
If they were not in his plans we should have been touting them around earlier.

I'd put Eriksen in list of CAM as well as Son on the left side too. I'd also put Alli in CM options.

It's not a bad squad. Not one that's really pushed on from last season though, that's the main problem. I just want Edwards to get some game time and impress.
Problem is that will only happen in the EFL cup. We can't rest players for the CL.

Yes because the chairman is the one that selects the players to buy at our club? And despite that,
- Lloris (one of the best keepers in the world for 12m)
- Alderweireld (our POTY last season for 11m in a market where John Stones is 47.5m)
- Vertonghen (12m signing for a man who has been a mainstay in our defence last few years)
- Dier (4m?! That should be charged in court of law)
- Alli (5m for one of the biggest rising stars nowadays, trusting the scouts)
- Eriksen (11m for the hottest young player in the world at the time)
- Van der Vaart (Great player who really propelled us in the CL)
- Modric (need I say anymore?)
- Bale (see above)

So many more besides that, not bad for a chairman who is the worst at signing players, we almost never sell players on a negative.

Many of those are under £20-30 mil - which highlights my exact point. It's alright saying we signed good players on the cheap - we have. And how many real quality signings have we made, of established world class players?

Out of that list there's 1 - VDV. (Before you say Bale he was a 17 year old kid who wasn't that expensive).

It's alright saying "We can't sign his wages, no CL football" etc etc but even when we have been able to provide that (this year) there's not been any real progression in terms of quality targets.

With all due respect mate you make no point.

Are we a big club or not?

The point was we did not have the fan base to fill a larger stadium prior to the ENIC revival. Even then it's taken them nearly 10 years to get us from mid table to pushing the top 4. We were once a big club however have been over taken by the financially doped Chavs and City. We cannot compete with them when it comes to expenditure. We have had to do it the hard way of building our squad over years to become competitive. We cannot go out in one window and spunk £100m+, discounting the Bale anomaly for spending.

So because everyone else is spending more money we should be doing the same and potentially bankrupting ourselves in the process? ENIC are a sports investment company and have run the club as a very tight ship whilst also building a £500m+ stadium. However some fans are crying when it comes to us not spending £20m+, paying £100k pw salaries in the process on players who are likely to be sat on the bench? Okay.

Because Utd, City and Chavs are spending astronomical amounts the market need to line up with their spending. The market demands money to be spent.

The money the club make from the fans is negligible, they could charge us £100 but they do us a favour by 'only' charging £55.

I have absolutely no idea how you extracted any of that from my post.

Disco!!!! Disco!!!!

So everyone pretty much agreed that the two positions that we definitely needed to strengthen were cover for Dier/Dembele and Kane

That dodges the narrative of us selling Chadli, Pritchard and possibly Njie.

Now our only AM's are:
Eriksen, Lamela, Alli, Onomah, maybe Son and...Kane? Far as I'm aware that's literally it. 5-6 players covering spots over a year in 3-4 comps? Isn't gonna go well

Don Giovanni Don Giovanni care to explain why you disagree with Spurs denying every bid for Son and me thinking he is very much needed?

Agree with this 100%. We have a good squad no doubt, and I like the two signings we have made. However, I think we are missing a trick to push on with signing a player of real quality. If not now then when?

I highly doubt Isco will come to fruition but that is exactly the type of player we should be targeting to push us on.
