Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Winks, Onomah and Edwards don't have to do what Dier and Dele did, they only have to do what Chadli, Mason, and Bentaleb did, and that shouldn't be such a huge ask for them. And it's much easier to ask them to sit on the bench and wait for their chance, and ask them to give everything to take their chance when they get it. If we brought in 3 guys for big money to show our intent to the world, would these guys be happy to start on the bench? Would they give everything to prove they are worthy of playing next week? Or would they expect to start at the expense of the younger lads based on little more than their transfer fee and what they achieved elsewhere?

Poch has always insisted on creating a tight knit squad, players who believe in themselves and their teammates, bringing in a big money, big name player is a risk and a risk only worth taking if we are certain that the player involved is going to show the same hunger and desire as a lad from the academy in spite of their previous exploits or transfer fee.

Good points. I still think that Onomah and Edwards will struggle to match what Chadli, Mason, and Bentaleb did. Chadli was quite productive despite doing everything to look like he wasn't. My general point is that production in the form of decent performances and even goals, may not be enough this season to give us the wins necessary to hold a top 4 position. If we were to replicate all of last years performances, and there were some great ones, do we finish top 4 this year? I'm not sure. United is clearly better, City is better, Chavs can't be worse than last year, Everton will be better, Bindippers also have potential to be much stronger. I also don't think Leicester will fall as far as many think, and teams like Stoke seem committed to continuing their rise. We don't play in a league where we can rest on our laurels, or necessarily afford to not spend.
I think myself and others were hoping to bring in players like Wanyama and Janssen to fill gaps, we did that. However, we also wanted 1-2 players that could really push and challenge our starting 11, so we could survive bad stretches or runs of form. I think that could be done without disrupting chemistry or stunting progress of upcoming talent. Those types of moves will cost money and given the current money being spent in our league, more money than our club is willing to spend.
We all want the same thing wins, glory, a unified squad, depth. I just fear that not spending now given the opportunities for the club this year could be a big mistake. If Poch wants it this way and believes the youth can step up and deliver, then I am all behind him. If it fails though, even by the slightest of margins I fear the setback could be tough to take.

K: Lloris, Vorm, Lopez

D: Walker, Trippier, Walker-Peters
Alderweireld, Carter-Vickers
Vertonghen, Wimmer
Rose, Davies

M: Dembele, Wanyama, Dier
Carroll, Winks

AM: Eriksen, Lamela, Alli, Onomah, Nkoudou, Edwards, Son

S: Kane, Janssen, Harrison

We are certainly counting on the kids here. One or two more would be ok.

I think they earned our trust last year.

I'm excited about this season.

Why are people so keen to make excuses for why we don't win anything? And why are the people who think that we could win the odd trophy along the way being slated? We're a big club. Big clubs are supposed to win stuff. Am I getting this wrong, or is this why non Spurs fans think we're not a big club? I'm honestly confused.
I ain't making excuses. I ain't slating anyone for thinking we can't win a trophy. Just stating how football is now.
Is spending money we ain't got worth taking the risk. It took City a few years of big spending/slaries to win anything.
Are Everton a big club? They ain't won anything for what 20 years. They were also one of the big 5 like us.
Should they not be winning the odd trophy?
Invariably wage bill = trophies.
Invariably it's teams that have a team from the bench made up of quality well paid internationals that wins stuff lately. We cannot afford to pay 20+ players 100k pw unless we don't pay anyone else who plays or works at the club.
We were once one of the big 5, we are not anymore.

I get it, it's not nice.
We haven't won anything for 7 years.

Edit: I hope we are going in the right way. That is to make our club a football club again. A team that is feared and not blown off as soft and a club that has big club facilities. It looks like we are heading in the right direction.
