Big rumours tonigbt that Danny Rose is not happy with our lack of ambition in the market and would consider an offer if it come along. A top 6 player has been interviewed with the sun and apparantly its Rose. If true not surprised at the slightest. What have I been saying all window ? Whilst getting shot down by certain posters on here. It's come right back to bite us in the ass. What a load of fucking bolloks!!! This fucking chairman of ours will ruin everything we have built.
Prem superstar opens his heart to The Sun in a sensational interview that will leave one top six side reeling
One, the chairman is the man that has built everything.
Two, I honestly don't think it is Levy's fault. Transfers are difficult to get right, extremely difficult. We have previously moved quickly and successfully for our targets when operating the Director of Football model. Under Comolli we bought Berbatov, Zakora, then the summer after Bent, Bale, Kaboul, Boateng then Woodgate and Hutton in Jan etc and the summer after Bentley, Dos Santos, blah blah blah. When Redknapp didn't want to work under a DOF then transfer business slowed down considerably. Because Levy had to work on the deals himself with the finance guys. That is not a good system for getting stuff done quickly and easily.
Yet Redknapp was backed in his desire not to work under a Sporting Director while it was also clear that Comolli clashed with both Jol and Ramos and bought players they didn't really want.
Under AVB we didn't have one in place and if we had first season we may have got him Moutinho who he clearly wanted to build his team around but nevertheless we had a few good signings that summer early doors and had a good season. Then we went back to a DOF and saw a return to early doors transfers and successful large value complex transfers in Soldado and Lamela.
But again it's apparent that the DOF model has its limitations and AVB did not want some or all of these players and couldn't make them work.
The other thing is that I see a club like Man City operate with a DOF and always make high value early signings but their team cohesion and consistency over the last few seasons has been laughable they really have looked a collection of individuals rather than a team and so this is the limitations of having transfers controlled by a different person than the guy designing the tactics and coaching the players.
We have decided to back Poch like Redknapp we swapped his role from Head Coach to Manager and he calls the shots on transfers but it has seemed to result in some slower transfer business and some poorer transfers.
He is also by all accounts much more inclined to enjoy coaching youth players or existing players to improve rather than just sanction a large transfer.
Finally, our model has always been based on the Ajax/Dortmund model in that we identify youth like Rose, buy them early for peanuts then develop them into talents then sell for a large sum and reinvest. Ever since Levy travelled round Europe looking at the way clubs are run on the continent and came back with Frank Arnesen and Martin Jol that is our model.
We are set up to sell players and reinvest and we cannot compete in fees and wages with Man U, Man City, Woolwich, Chelsea and Liverpool. That's just a fact.
So we aren't going to destroy what we have built, what we have built is a model and infrastructure and club that despite several turnovers of manager, directors of football and the selling of some star. Players has consistently punched above its weight and improved from a club that finished 10th and below to a club that finished 7th to 5th and then the last few seasons a club that finished top 4 and challenges for the title.
