Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

But the problem is that when you get it wrong, you have very expensive problems that are very difficult to fix.

Davinson Sanchez is also an expensive problem that's very difficult to fix.

I haven't given up on Dav, but you get what I'm saying. There is no magic bullet, and there is always downside risk, including the downside risk of doing nothing, which is what we're currently seeing. Not making a decision IS making a decision.

I guess my broader point was that young players with sell-on value was a smart route to go for Spurs circa like 2008 not because those are inherently better players, but because they were available at below their true value. Much like in other sports around the globe, those undervalued opportunities are becoming rarer and rarer.

Tottenham allegedly tried to sign the Napoli youngster, with Transfer Market Web (lol) claiming that the north London outfit actually made a bid for him last summer.

The Serie A outfit value Diawara at around €40 million (£34.1 million), according to Radio CRC (lol)

Those younger players are inherently better though, as you get more of their peak years when you sign them. A squad full of olds guys requires a lot more churn to keep going and Spurs have show a consistent inability to execute transfers at the kind of pace you’d need.

Well there ya go, that's an impediment you can't afford to place on yourself.

Anyway, I think it's both/and rather than either/or.

You look at clubs who are succeeding at a high level without petro-doping wealth at their disposal (Dortmund, Atleti, Napoli, maybe Juve to a certain extent) and they don't always bring in the same sort of player, but they're fearless, shrewd, and have an eye for a deal.

Spurs were that way for a long while. One can't help the sense that the sudden inflation of the price tags for the players they really want just spooks Levy a bit.

Just a thought. Alderweireld & Trippier to United, we take Matic and Sanchez on a swap. Someone like Poch can get the best out of both - then we land Willian off Chelski to replace CE. We then need Diop off West Ham and a quality striker for real money out of Levy’s stash.
And of course let’s have Bale back for 2 seasons if the money is right or if there’s a money plus offer from Real involving CE.

Sanchez 😂😂😂😂

If Poch had turned down the amount of players he’s rumoured to have turned down I’d be astonished. After all, why would he? It makes no sense.

Allegedly:

- Turned down Tielemans ON LOAN.
- Seemingly said yes to Grielish pre price-hike.
- Maddison decline us / Poch declined Maddison (depending on what you read)

.....Who else am I missing?

People in the 'Lamela would have been a top class player but for injury' brigade seem to miss the fact that the guy's played nearly 200 games for Spurs and never looked even close to becoming an elite level player for us...
Yeah whenever he was out people said lamela will make us a lot better when he's fit. He comes back & we aren't any better & he usually ends up being a sub as doesn't impress enough to keep a starting 11 place. Then his big fans find scraps of comfort like a bad foul, the rare goal, smart assist or that he runs around a lot.

He isn't rubbish. About a 7 out of 10 player. We got plenty of those already. Got to be a 9 like robben to be worth keeping when you're injured that much. We have wasted a small fortune on him. Would have been better off not signing him. Then despite how careful we are with ££, we give him a few more million. Shock, injured again!

I hope we cast a fairly wide net this summer and keep an eye on the various talent factories hidden in the "minor" big leagues as well instead of just looking at the big 5 leagues. Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord in Holland. Porto, Benfica and Sporting in Portugal. Anderlecht and Brügge in Belgium. Salzburg in Austria etc.

Lots of gems available most likely if we just do the job. Salzburg in particular I think are flying under the radar.

Not long now chaps.

Everyone’s favourite, barely literate wally, Hercules, is dusting off his crystal ball, ready to deliver a Summer-long volley of incomprehensible transfer-related bullshit.

I, for one, cannot wait.
