So really it could be anywhere between 2 and 6 incomings (maybe more if we buy some prospects), and I think the club would do well to be bringing in closer to the latter number than the former.

That just won’t happen even if Toby and Eriksen leave.
Say they do leave, then I don’t see us signing a CB after investing some 60M in Foyth and Sanchez. And rightly so, they need to be moulded into top players.

Aurier, Tripper and KWP...I can see Trippier going to Everton where he’ll do well, KWP is 50/50 whether he gets a shot next year, but the signs point to a loan.
I can see us shaping Foyth into a RB before we sign one to be honest.

Eriksen will be replaced, and I can see us going in for Grealish again for silly money. Don’t know if Rabiot is still an option but I think the club would address this departure seriously.
(I’m fully aware that Rabiot is different but apparently Eriksen is irreplaceable so we have to change our style of play)

Janssen will probably go, but I can see us just sticking with Kane and Llorente up top, and maybe give Sterling a number.

Dembele should be replaced of course, but just don’t see Dier or Wanyama moving on.
Maybe Skipp loaned out and a CM signed (Rabiot two birds one stone)

So in short I could see us signing an absolute maximum 2 players.

I honestly don’t think the club agree with the hysterics over our central midfield and full backs.

Personally I think people are focusing too much on the lack of investment. It’s important, but it’s one of four main factors:

1) most of our players getting physical and emotional fatigue from the World Cup
2) abnormal levels of injury, esp to key players (possibly due to above)
3) no significant investment in the team
4) playing at Wembley, new stadium delay

All these factors have contributed to a drop in performance this year. We’ve gone from being in amongst it to now 25pts (!) off the leaders, and have scraped top four.

Then you take a step back and realise with Kane, Winks, Son and a fit Sissoko we’re probably doing Ajax at home. We still have a chance as well. This is a really good season for us.

Next season, with a full summer off, the new stadium in place, we can finally settle in to the future. If we want to maintain CL and have a decent chance of some silverware, £100m will probably do it, bringing in maybe Sessegnon, Tielemans and maybe Grealish or similar. I’d be happy with that in the summer.

If we want to have a go at the league, that would need an extra £200m on top of that, with Wan-Bissaka, NDombele and van de Beek. For me that’s the reality of the PL now, and very unlikely.

Include new contracts for Toby and Eriksen and I'd be over the moon with that summer, and probably somewhat more optimistic about our chances for the league than you are, because of the other factors you listed.

I respectfully disagree, and think we'll see more than 2 new players come in through the door - but hey, time will tell I suppose.
:pochsmirk:

The preceding summers to last we brought in, in reverse order, 5, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 6 players.

We do deals.
This, and we're due two transfer window's worth of turnaround after last summer.
