I think you've spotted the problem instantly....Davy Klaassen went from Ajax with their passing and quick movement to a team managed by Tugboat Sam. It's like Messi joining the Crazy Gang.

VDB is not only a superb footballer, he's extremely clever. The hand he had in the two Ajax goals last night were superb. The way he left it to the last minute to block off Jan for the first was excellent, his run to make space for Ziyech was also very clever.

VDB is the big talent in that team as he makes things happen by himself and by creating space for others.
VDB seems like a very smart player. Is there a believable price tag for him?

I thought we won last night...

We've made £102 million from the CL, so far. £106 million if we win it.

Surely that has to be handed straight back to Poch.

Don't forget the players are on big bonuses related to getting to CL and how we do in the tournament, so my guess is a quarter or even a half has already been paid to the current players with more to come in their May and June pay checks.

I do wonder if he's thinking about a switch to us after last night.

He's a raw diamond at the moment and Poch would mold him perfectly.
I hope Poch had a word with him and Van De Beek and offered them the chance to join potentially the CL winners.

His only problem is that at present he feels he needs to do all the defending for the team. It's clear he doesn't rate Blind as a centre half.

Alongside Vertonghen however.....

I posted on the match thread just before the game started saying how arrogant he looked.

He's got a winners grin on his face a lot of that time. His belief in himself, which is half the reason he's so good. It could also be one of his biggest obstacles in his career if that's not managed well.

Basically, he's what Jan was at that age.

I'd only go for De Ligt if Toby leaves. Otherwise, we should use our limited funds on fullbacks and CM.

I'm hoping that if we win the CL trophy, Eriksen will decide to stay and Poch can patch things up with Toby.

There's an interview with Le Pais or some publication that was translated on r/soccer and Poch apparently says to Levy: Don't worry about the ones who want to leave, worry about the ones who want to stay- because those who want to leave have ambition. It also sounded like multiple players wanted to leave (even if none did) and that Poch wiped the slate clean (assuming Toby, Rose etc.) for everyone for the new season because we had no one else.

Now, at face value, that doesn't sound great. But, I mean, between the lines, if players are saying "we want to stay as long as there is ambition within the club" then these could be convinced to stay. It mostly sounds like Eriksen anyway. Perhaps Dele, since he took awhile to sign his contract. Toby obviously wanted to leave to get his last payday.

I mean, this is Spurs, so I'm not super hopeful or optimistic, but perhaps the penny will have dropped with Levy. Even a CL win cannot mask over a second half collapse or the woeful performances for the entire season. If he's a fan, as some claim he is, and he watches every game, maybe, maybe we might get some positive signings.

I think we'll see big action this summer.

Like I said somewhere else, I wonder if Poch got guarantees of funding that he felt weren't enough to buy the type of player he wanted and declined to buy players, instead ringfencing the money so he would have a better scope for this window.

The thing about De Ligt is simple. If he costs £80 million this year and improves in any way shape of form, what's his value in 2 or three years? Still young enough to command a colossal fee with the added bonus of experience and leadership.

If a genuine World Class player can be tempted to join, isn't it worth getting?

I don't think it's the best idea to go after these Ajax players right now. They are smoking hot for the moment and everybody will be after them. Ajax will be looking for crazy money.

I am sure we can find more affordable options in Germany, France, Belgium and other Dutch clubs.

I also believe that Tielemans is a bigger talent than Van De Beek and he has already been proving it in the PL, CL (with Anderlecht against the Scum) and the Belgian national team.

On the back of the Tripps to Napoli rumours, I saw one of the Italian sites saying that Spurs will only ok the deal if Diawara is part of the deal.
Don't know how to do links on my phone
Thoughts ?
