I like van de Beek whenever I saw him for Ajax but he's no where near as good as De Jong when it comes to technical ability and he doesn't usually start for Holland, does he?

I hope he's a bit more than Davy Klaasen. Just get Ndombele done ffs.

Probably somewhere in between De Jong and Klaassen, he will never become world-class, but he wouldn't be a joke in the PL like Klaassen either.

Ndombele seems like a must. Is there someone else comparable and available? Really haven't seen us linked with anyone else with Ndombele's skillset.

CBs tend to come of age slower and also play longer than other positions, but people want to kick them to the curb if they haven't reached their level.

To your point, if you told me VVD would be one of the top CBs in the world in 2016 I'd ask you to pass the crack you were smoking. Took him until 26 to really each his potential.

Completely agree. The one caveat to all this, however, is that Ake isn't as tall as you'd want a CB to be. Regardless of his quality, that is an asset VVD had.

Considering our previous supposed interest in Andersen, I could see Ake being a plan B with added homegrown status as a bonus.

Or, of course, the story could be aimed at motivating Sampdoria to do a deal.

I dunno who most of these players being linked to spurs are, let alone whether they are any good ... First and foremost I just hope we keep all* of our best players - that includes Eriksen, Toby, n Trips for me. It’s the best team I can remember spurs having in my lifetime, and there’s been a lot of shite.

Selling Eriksen would be a step backwards as I don’t think the players mentioned are as good as him. Not without reason Real Madrid are hovering around him like a fly on shit, rather than Lo Celso et al.

* Except Lamela and Janssen - they can both go. Tbh I’d be happy with Zaha replacing Lamela and Sessegnon coming in, plus another midfielder.

Doucoure seems like a significant downgrade to Ndombele. I'm not going to pretend like I've watched the other two. Haidara seems like a project. Kessie would probably be the best of those other options.

They all fill me with "meh" though.
