Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That's the problem really. Impossible to win titles & CL regularly without spending a lot. But most don't want to be that type of team but do want to win these things. So realistically we are saying we are happy with top 4 & no titles. Considering where we have been, that's a very good achievement for us.

But if we want to go to the next level we will have to become 1 of those teams that spend a lot. It is the crossroads many have spoken of this summer.
I'd guess we will end up being somewhere in the middle between barely spending & spending big. Which won't reveal much. But we shall see.
No one is saying we shouldn't spend we are just realistic about our spending power with this ownership. I would hate to have a sugar daddy as would many others but that's different to not wanting us to spend.

Makes me laugh when people think £70m is a lot for a player in modern football, Liverpool spent £67m on a goalkeeper, United have just bid £55m for Bissaka.

£70m is nothing in modern football, especially for a club looking to win trophies but I am sure that won't stop people thinking we will "do a leeds" if we spend anymore than £40m on a player.

Laughable really, you have some of our supporters wanting us to win the league or the CL but the second you mention that will require us changing our approach to transfers and spending more money they start getting offended (even though our manager has said the exact same thing.)
I'm sorry but £70 million is still a fuck load of money in modern football. A handful of clubs can spend that kind of money!

Yes Liverpool spent £67 million last summer on a goalkeeper last summer but supposedly one of the best in the world.

We won't do a Leeds though as we are not going into this spending money on the promise of CL football alone. That doens't mean that we should be frivolous with that kind of money. Spending it wisely is important.

After getting 130m for coutinho due to neymars move.

Actually a lot were happy with us not spending last summer & agreed with it. & lots are now saying not to spend recklessly when I don't think any one wants levy & poch to make buys that they see as reckless.

63 million, if that's actually what Lyon want for him, would be an extremely good deal for Ndombele in the current market and a transfer fee we would easily be able to afford.
I don’t know if I’d all it an extremely good deal, but it’s within the margins of fair in the current market. However, considering we could get him in prior to training camp starting and he’s our main target, that seems worth the £5m we *might* be able to save.

We also haven’t spent money on the squad in 18 months, and despite the cost overruns associated with the stadium, the significant increase in revenue Spurs have generated over the past 3-4 seasons (something that surely was budgeted for when the stadium project broke ground) means we are pretty cash healthy despite the debt.

Let’s hope Levy can push this over the line soon - at least agree to a fee. At that point it’s up to the player, who we’ve also allegedly agreed to terms with, to decide if he wants to commit.

I am simply saying that good players cost more than £40m these days, It doesn't mean we have to spend £70m on every single player but when they are top quality players of the highest calibre and there is a big chance they could take you on to the next level then it's worth it imo.
Correct the top players cost a hell of a lot, if we can get a top level player for 70m we should.

Top level players are not coming to spurs, NDombele is below Pogba and Eriksen on real madrid list and that's the level he is currently at. Lo Celso is probably a tier or two below that. This is why we are haggling plus we probably need 4 in.

We will see what happens but I think we will spend this year.... I did think that last year so not as confident as I would have been

Even if he flopped we wouldnt be in big trouble financially or be risking doing a leeds.
Levy & poch aren't reckless types anyway.

I don't understand why people are so concerned with our finances, we are football supporters, not accountants, we aren't going to go broke and do a leeds like you say, I can't believe some people think that could happen to us.

Even if we spent £200m in a window and every single player flopped it's not going to make us do a leeds ffs.

People need to understand that every single transfer is a risk, from big money to small money, none are guaranteed to succeed, if we spent our entire life worrying about "what if" we would never move forward as a club, it's best we secure our targets that our manager wants and take that risk imo because the rewards could be massive.

Are we talking about last year or now? I was content with managers and owners choice last year, would have been happy if they bought someone but if they felt their targets were not getable I understood their stance... Was even happier when I heard the de Jong stuff.

Depending on spend this summer and our cl run top 4 finish could be over a the moon the gamble paid off.
