Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The Rabiot news has gone a little quiet over the last couple of days, as has the Andre Gomes deal to Everton. It was widely reported that both of these deals had been agreed yet nothing has been confirmed as official since.

Could it be that Rabiot, Juve, Gomes and Everton are ramping up their moves because knock on effect decisions have been made elsewhere or possibly its them acting to get things moving along?

If Rabiot does join Juve I'd find it very hard to believe that Ndombele would see that as a prosperous move for his international aspirations. The Rabiot deal and Real Madrid's interest in Pogba are the ones I'm keeping my eye on most, inthink both are key to what happens with us and Tanguy.
Yes I must admit, real are frightening prospect looming in the background. They are the ones that can blow us out of the water at the last minute.

As for Juve though, we all know they absolutely love a free transfer and are willing to pay silly wages when someone is coming for free.

Your right though, there is no announcement for Rabiot but there are lots of credible reports saying it is close and I think they would prefer Rabiot for free rather than Tanguy for £60mill+

Before looking at our wish lists, maybe we should take these articles into consideration?

Whiteman
Wan Bissaka
Sessengon
NDombele
Lo Celso

That's not going to happen.

Button is a spurs graduate, would add to the homegrown quota and could give Whitman the much needed time to develop. Great, cheap purchase from Brighton. (£2m for Button)

Walker-Peters and Aurier will be our right backs if Trippier is sold. No movement there. (£20m for Trippier)

Sessengon may well be the replacement for Rose if he is sold. (£20m for Rose / probably the same fee for Sessengon)

Alderweireld was replaced with Sanchez. Carter-Vickers could be involved more next season. (£25m for Alderweireld but he will see out his contract with us so no fee there)

Dembele is a massive hole in our squad. He needs replacing. (£11m for Dembele). Many are hoping for NDombele but I can see him going to another club. We will use Sissoko and Winks and sign a CM that has yet to be mentioned. Onomah could be involved next season

Lo Celso may well be the 'big' summer signing but, it will depend on Eriksen's future. That deal has the least opposition however, we could easily be priced out if a bidding war starts. Eriksen could well stay so no Lo Celso in that case. (£55m for Eriksen / the same fee for Lo Celso)

Clarke looks very likely to sign but, he may well be loaned straight back to Leeds. (,£17m for him)

Janssen and N'Koudou will both be sold (£5m / £2m). Edwards will replace N'Koudou and Llorente will sign a one year deal

We're not selling Trippier and Rose just to weaken our side. If they leave, we'll buy upgrades.

‘We're not selling Trippier and Rose just to weaken our side. If they leave, we'll buy upgrades’

... You make it sound like players are the next fucking iPhone! The players you are keen to ‘upgrade’ got us champs league football (beating Arse and Utd to get there) - oh, and the final.

We don’t need to sell to improve, We need to buy. Then if Tripps or whoever can’t make the team and decide to leave further down the line, fine. Competition for places!

Looking at the squad there could be up to maybe 10 players who if Spurs got bids for they would be considered BUT and it's a big but. No way is the club going to sell 10 players as that would probably require about 8 or so coming in otherwise the squad would have no depth.

So perhaps a maximum of 6 sales ( including Janssen and N'Koudou ) with probably no leavers until Alderweireld and Eriksen future is known.

Doesn't stop a few incoming such as Ndombele ( providing Lyon drop their price) but we'll have to wait until after Alderweireld and Eriksen decision before we finalise who the last couple incoming will be.

As long as there's not a loan back that will be a great deal. We need more options in that position now. Lennon was younger than Clarke when we bought him from Leeds and made a massive difference in his first season.

Lennon was the exception though. Wasn't planned either. Routledge was expected to be a star but unfortunately injured in about his 2nd game and Jol took a chance on Lennon as we were short on numbers

He was just a better player than Routledge, who went on to have a journeyman's career.

Clarke is just a few months younger than Sancho, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he had a double digit goals/assists first season, or even sneaked into the Euro 2020 squad. He really is a great prospect.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting we sell anyone (except Janssen and N'Koudou), just posted the quotes from our players and suggested alternatives for if any do move on.

There is a need to replace the two players that have already left however (Vorm, Dembele)

Lennon was bought as being a bright young prospect with a fantastic turn of pace.

Routledge was bought as being a player to slot straight into the first team, best player at Crystal Palace at the time. But after the first couple of games and injury not sure he played for Spurs again. Made a decent career for himself playing for Swansea in PL for example but never lived up to his expected promise.

Lennon as you say took to PL like a duck to water, his fantastic speed catching out a lot of teams.

Clarke is physically pretty mature, hope he lives up to expectation, be delighted if he did get double digit goals/assists in his first season but to me that's a pretty heavy expectation for Clarke. Not sure Poch wil be scheduling more games for Clarke than Skipp last season but let's see !

I'd see the likes of Skipp, Clarke, Parrott, Edwards and even Sessegnon coming in as the next batch to mould. I'd be happy with them coming in for Cup games or the occasional league game whenever senior players are injured or need rotating. I'd much rather see these kind of players given a chance on the bench ready to take their opportunity than players who have hit their ceiling. If one comes through and makes it you've automatically got yourself a new heavyweight for the first team.

The next batch would probably be something along the lines of Etete, Cirkin, White, Bennett and Markanday from what I can gather with my limited youth football viewing. Always nice to have 3-4 potentials coming through each year which is why I'm happy seeing us bring in the likes of Etete and that Yago De Santiago kid we've apparently got in from Celta Vigo.

It’s not happy days until we achieve something with these signings though.
A point I raised last week......who will we blame if he gets who he wants and we fail again?
Who’s fault will it be when Jack Clark is on the bench and Ndombele is subbed off while an underperforming Dele is shunted around the pitch and given other people’s game time.

Poch has masses to learn outside of anything we can do in the market.

The lack of depth thing is bullshit. Yes we need strengthening, but the problem is we are looking to upgrade the wrong players.

Lamela, Moura, Dier etc are all fine squad players......the players who need dropping are all guaranteed starters.
People don’t want Eriksen Dele or Kane dropped yet they want someone as good as them to sit on the bench?
Yeah because that will happen.

Said it time and time again......you think Origi, Shaqiri, Lallana, Pedro, Zapacosta, Higuain, Christiansen, Giroud, Darmian, Fred, Sanchez, Rojo, McTominay, Elneny, Lichsteiner, Monreal,
Iwobi, Stones, Mangala, Foden, Zinchenko, Delph etc etc......you think that’s world class back up?

Wouldn’t want a single player
Squad players does not need to be "world class", but good players who believe in the team and the manager. That's also why I hope we keep those players you mentioned.

We do need to strengthen the first eleven though, if we want to progress. Ndombele would very likely do this. Lo Celso MIGHT do this. We can never know for sure when a player changes league or club.

We have been led to believe that we don't have to sell before we buy seeing as the club hasn't made a purchase for a couple of windows, even though levy likes value for money and coming in with a profit we must have cash available.
I agree with you. We should have funds available. However unless and until he has done deals for the outgoing players I’d be very surprised if we spend anything significant before then. For instance I doubt whether Poch would want Levy to sell Eriksen to an EPL rival unless it was crazy money and there is doubt as to how much Real want him. The main worry is that these deals will drag out for some time and that other clubs buy our targets while Levy wants those deals done first.

Valid enough points.

But also worth remembering that the majority of PL clubs and indeed across Europe have yet to announce a signing.

But imo for the first time Spurs could spend up to say £100m before selling a n existing player. Provided the player is on Pochs list of highly desirable.

And despite Manu being linked to every player in Europe because they need a radical squad overhaul I cannot see any ambitious player of substance wanting to join them so none going from Spurs to Manu
