Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If you look at Poch team selection over he last 2 or 3 seasons, the surprise has always been that most of the players were already at Spurs before Poch arrived - so whilst Poch has undoubtedly improved them his acquisition of new players since he has been at Spurs is definitely s mixed bag.

I'd suggest that Kane, for example improved a lot over the first 2 or 3 years under Poch but not much since, and the same with other players. So in total the squad has not improved that much in recent seasons as too few of the acquisitions have made it to the first team.

So I'd blame a failure to buy good players not over the last 2 or 3 seasons but all the seasons that Poch has been here.

This TW I've been pleased to see a combination of buying top rated players (Ndombele) some top rated youngsters (Clarke) and possible progression of youngsters (Parrott, White Tanganga) and I hope it works better than TWs even 4 or ,5 years ago - perhaps one of our best buys in that period was Dele who Poch was not involved in his selection.

Poch is a great coach but I have seen no evidence he's good at buying players (same as Southampton where he bought Osvaldo for the second time - Southampton had to cancel his contract at great cost,)
Interesting point. Not something I had thought about in great depth I must admit re: Poch poor transfer acquisitions.

What I will say though is that he knows his system. He knows how to get us playing in an effective fashion. It is also hard to know who Poch wants in his team and doesn’t get. There may have been 3 or 4 players over the last 2/3 seasons who he has wanted in to actively improve the starting line up, but never got.

For the criticism of his potential poor transfers, there have been a few good ones in fairness.

As for Kane, he’s had a tough time with injury the last season and a half. I have high hopes for him for this season IF he can stay fit.

Like I just said to Five:

"I did acknowledge it would be nice (understatement!), just this idea that the outside world needs to validate this shit for us doesn't sit well with me. I said here the other day; look how little the CL win meant for Liverpool outside of their fanbase... No-one gave a fuck and just adopted the narrative of "ah, bet they'd have swapped it for the league:.... The game's in a mess."

Truth... I want the league. Will spending 100m in the next couple of days make it any more of a truly realistic prospect... Contentious.... Both sides of that argument are thoroughly represented here and all over the internet.
Yeah it is was definitely the narrative. When you witness a team go so close on multiple occasions and not get the job done, I suppose the natural reaction is to downplay any other achievements.

As for the spending, if we had cumulatively added 1 or 2 (max) players to our team the last 3 transfer windows, who knows where we’d be at right now. There is a natural desire to want to overcompensate in this window to make up for dry windows in the recent past. It might not be the answer, but it might be.

I just find it hard to believe not spending will bring us success.

"So close"?

Sounds like something the dippers would say tho.... Bit like how they've taken to claiming they've been City's only true rivals for ages....

Embarrassed themselves in the CL final the year before last and they haven't mounted a true title challenge under Klopp before, be that challenging City of anyone else. Closest they'd previously been was 'the slip' under Brenton (whilst finishing behind us 8 or the last 10 seasons).

I just think it's more a case that football is fickle as fuck (and all too bitter) these days.

Well yeh no-one can claim to know for sure....

That's not an argument being made though...

You honestly have no idea about football do you? Stats don’t mean fuck all. Clearly you live and die by them but still can’t see how fucking ludicrously good Sissoko has been for us, it’s depressing
Look guys I have to step in here. Sissoko shouldn't be anywhere near the team. He's behind Dier and Winks in my estimations. Get rid of him, bring back Gareth Bale. Bish bash bosh. Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt.

I understand that some folk get frustrated in here but spare a thought for that cunt A@C over on the idiots guide on how to make friends and influence people.

Lets be clear here, this thread isn't for people YOU think are ITK, its for people WE have verified or at least have a proper track record and have been verified on other Spurs forums such as COYS etc

It's not for fucking rappers, twitter tossers or other social media spunkherberts who you might 'think' (and I use the term fucking loosely) qualify as eye tee fucking kay.

Seriously, if you're trying to impress upon me the depths of your rampant bastard idiocy, mission fucking accomplished you numb nutted spunk oboe.

I was having a decent day until I came on here and found that shit. I actually now just want to put fags out in your eyeballs and stamp on your minuscule testes whilst dressed as Andy fucking Pandy. Fucking knobweasles.

I think they were as close this season as the ‘slip’ season as you put it. They bottled a healthy lead, and ended up 1 point off. No sympathy from me, but you can understand why their CL success was not as appreciated as it may have been in different circumstances.

Wouldn’t mind experimenting by spending 100 mil in the last couple of days just to say we tried.. ha!

You may still get your wish.

3 days to go for Levy to get his shit together.

Let's have a short recap:

Accomplishments :
Ndombele
AIA 320m shirt deal over 8 years
Clarke for next season

Outstanding:
Signing Eriksen & Toby to new deals or their replacements
Stadium sponsorship
Signing a LB and AM as competition

We were not title contenders in 2015/16 until the others fell away , leaving us trailing Leicester, hoping that they would drop points but for some inexplicable reason they never did.

Bizarre season, but it's revisionism to suggest we were ever in with a real chance of the title - just never got near Leicester.

Funnily enough I think we played them in the FA cup like a week apart from playing them in the league. I can remember distinctly having a discussion with my old man saying that if we could only win one of the two, it’d be the cup as then “at least we’d be in with a chance of a trophy”.....
Obviously didn’t win the FA cup that year and in hindsight them beating us in the league (1-0 with a later header I believe - might be getting muddled) was a massive step towards their title; had we won that game things might’ve turned out different.
However, as you point out, I can recall not thinking at the time we were in a title race and that would’ve been 20-25 games into the season.

Seems Mauro Icardi is being whore'd around by Inter ATM.

Dybala has gone quiet and for sure Kane cannot be our only center forward!

Thoughts on a deadline day Levy special?

Icardi has managed to produce 1.11 Key Passes per 90 and 0.15 Assists per 90 since joining Inter despite having to play with Jonathan Biabiany and the shadow of Antonio Candreva as his starting wingers. This output is better than both Kane’s– who’s enjoyed the presence of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Heung Min Son during the same time frame– and Lewandowski’s– who’s enjoyed the presence of… pick any player on Bayern Munich.

Hey doc.. I got a genuine question.... Having had a stent 'installed', given up cigarettes and recently been declared to be of normal heart rate once more; If I vape a gram of weed a day am I dicing with death?

p.s. Red wine being good for your heart has gotta be bullshit, right? (Bearing in mind "moderation" is a conveniently vague term that constantly gets banded about
