£16 million is a lot of money when we still haven't got a backup striker, a RB (Doherty ?) competition for GLC, another LB and a DM.

I think I quite specifically mentioned that it would have made sense if we could move Lamela on (for similar amount).

Also Dorethy will be financed from sales of Aurier.
In terms of competition for GLC - there will be no movements until Ndombele is here. Then we have CLC; Alli and Ndombele. And if he is moved on then money comes from there.
ST; DM and LB would all be priotizied higher; I agree. But theoretically Lamela -> Eze could have still strenghtened us without large cash outlay.

Why do you think our scouting team and manager don't agree with you ?

The evidence ! And I still dont always agree with them !

Well would you after that explanation ?

There was no argument for buying Sissoko at that time and certainly not for 30 mill. My god that article makes terrible reading

Poch wanted Zaha, Levy bid 12 mill, Palace said he is not for sale and i would have too at that price and offer so late in the window with only a few days to find a replacement, so Spurs go and sign Sissoko for 30 mill on deadline day???? That is just horrendous. You don't buy a player for 30 mill who is nothing like the one you bid 12 mill for. Like him or not, everyone knows Zaha is a skilful pacy wide player who can contribute some goals and assists. Sissoko is just a powerful runner, no skill to beat a man, doesn't score doesn't assist. He provides no attacking threat. It was a pure last minute panic buy. Terrible

If we had 30 mill why not bid that for Zaha at the time, maybe that offer would have been enough to tempt Palace into selling at the time. Or have a genuinely similar alternative to spend that money on, not Sissoko.

"Dele Alli is the only man in the front four with real acceleration" what kind of bollocks is this?? Is this journalist paid to write such nonsense? Dele has more acceleration than Son, Lamela and even Kane?

Then we have this beauty from Poch "So we need someone who has characteristics like we saw from Liverpool, like Sadio Mané, the type of player that can break the defensive line" yes Poch, Mane has the pace and aggression to break the defensive line but he also has amazing ability to contribute something when he has broken that defensive line!!

The Sissoko transfer made no sense no matter how anyone tried to justify it. Nothing against the guy and over time he has proved himself in a different role which has helped the team but he was not the solution to the problem at the time when we needed a genuinely class wide player with speed, skill, goals and assists threat

Something something Diego Costa.....

Once a striker is signed, I think the window will take a turn. We'd have addressed the most important issues. Then I think it'll be deals that arise that are too good to turn down.

If a CAM or CM becomes available who is too good to ignore then I wouldn't be shocked to see us move again.

Sadly, it's looking a bit like Rakitic.

Though hopefully he's off to Sevilla.

So it looks like the only way we have a shot at Zaniolo is if the players causes a fuss. We have clear interest but the club doesn't want to sell. Maybe Jose and his agent can get him to request a move.

Nothing makes me believe Mourinho will go to a back 3. On the day we drew 2-2 at Woolwich, he as in the studio and discussed how teams who are switched on are now defending with a back 4, building with a back 3 where the left back tightens up to a centre half and the right back becomes a right wing back, meaning the right winger can come inside. That's how I expect him to continue, which is why Doherty will fit in so well.

I don't think it's an either or, the club scouted him and chose to pass for whatever reason. For that price I would have bought him if he wanted to come, I imagine promises of playing time at Palace played into it, but it's not like they aren't aware of Eze or Watkins or any of these other players. Clarke was the same type of buy.

It is frustrating though.

This just seems like more poor recruitment planning to me. Even if it took 20m to get Eze last summer (or January), I would much rather have paid that than the 37m we've ended up paying for Clarke and Bergwijn (or the 27m we've paid for Bergwijn in January). He's much better than Clarke (much further along the development ladder as well) and has similar attributes to Bergwijn in a younger HG package.

Clarke seemed a really strange purchase to me, yes there was some noise around him initially, but then he had that really bad medical issue and could barely get a game for Leeds the few months before we bought him, yet we figured it wise to spunk 10m on him?

There's no guarantees Eze will work out, but the combination of physical, technical and mental strengths with Eze seems like a pretty rare combo and a package definitely worth a punt of ever there was one.

This little gem belongs in the “Poch wanted SIssoko” arguments (Jack Pitt-Brook is a Spurs journo of reasonable repute,no?) that we’ve had with people like TomHotspur TomHotspur (apologies if it’s not you Tom) todd1882 todd1882 and a couple of others.

But how does this relate to Eze?

Not related particularly to Eze - the specific comment I wa replying to was ' Why do you think our scouting team and manager don't agree with you ?'

The reasons why some players (apparantly) are signed by clubs are not necessarily ones that may fans would agree with.

As its a slow day, I thought the link suggesting that Sissoko was signed as a (sort of) alternative to Mane might inject a bit of humour as well.
