Play them, loan them, and/or sell them by 23. Our academy should be one of the ways we fund transfer business. If we can get academy players into the first team, great, but you will rarely have more than 2-4 in a matchday squad.
Fair enough. But then why would we have a transfer budget over 5 years less than Burnley, Huddersfield, Brighton, Watford, Palace, Bournmouth, Newcastle, Wol.............

Edit: makes you wonder what Poch would have achieved with some backing

We're just shaping up to be a bit light on players in general.
Particularly if we're campaigning on four fronts in a version of the game where everyone gets 5 subs.
100%. Lamela is by far the easiest of our attacking options to upgrade/replace.
Maybe at RB and FW but our midfield has way too many players even with the multiple Cups we are involved in.
The new stadium is a blessing and a curse - I wouldn't be surprised if we funnelled profits straight into that project (while also making ourselves look better to the banks through our 'sustainable' neutral spend). If we'd have taken the handbrake off more like Liverpool and backed Poch while simply staying at WHL, perhaps we'd be in a very different position right now.Fair enough. I’d keep Lucas. He’s proven since lockdown he’s integral to the way Mourinho plays, and his work rate is superb.
Bailey would be a great signing, better than Lamela and on par with Bergwijn, but not an essential signing.
The way I see this window going is we’ll get CDM, RB and ST in for sure. Anything on top of that will be if players are made available or an opportunist signing arises, like Bergwijn was.
Lloris
Tanganga? Alderweireld Dier Davies
Winks Sissoko
Lucas Lo Celso Son
Kane
Gazzaniga
Foyth? Sanchez Carter-Vickers? Rose?
Ndombele? Skipp? Sessegnon
Lamela Alli Bergwijn
Not named, Alfie Whiteman, Jack Clarke, and Aurier/KWP since we're assuming them out the door.
Reasonable people can disagree on whether we have midfield quality, but there's no depth there at all.
The only place we have depth is non-line leading attacking players.

It was taken from 2014-2019. But that's not the point. Can you remind me when Cardiff were in PL - because that's when your chart was taken from !
