Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Play them, loan them, and/or sell them by 23. Our academy should be one of the ways we fund transfer business. If we can get academy players into the first team, great, but you will rarely have more than 2-4 in a matchday squad.

Thats a successful academy.

So many people feel like just because we aren't producing world beaters that start in our team every year we have a poor academy.

Weve provided a shit ton of good talent playing in the top 2 levels of the country.

Fair enough. But then why would we have a transfer budget over 5 years less than Burnley, Huddersfield, Brighton, Watford, Palace, Bournmouth, Newcastle, Wol.............

Edit: makes you wonder what Poch would have achieved with some backing

Last 5 years - not including -32m for GLC which is attributed to 20-21 ?

If I take the sum of the 5 last transfer windows, I don't get 262,8 million pounds, but I reach a number of 411 million pounds "purchased gross"
(Source: Transfermarkt: sum of 19/20 -> 15/16 BUT I added 28,8 million pounds for the finalizing of the GLC transfer which you could or could not say is wrong to include in 19/20)

Edit: bus-conductor bus-conductor already made the point I see

I'm not claiming your point is now simply invalid, but the numbers behind your reasoning aren't correct.

We're just shaping up to be a bit light on players in general.

Particularly if we're campaigning on four fronts in a version of the game where everyone gets 5 subs.

Maybe at RB and FW but our midfield has way too many players even with the multiple Cups we are involved in.

I think we have way too much meh in the MF actually so move a lot of the excess there and bring in RB's and we should be fine.

I’d keep Lucas. He’s proven since lockdown he’s integral to the way Mourinho plays, and his work rate is superb.

Bailey would be a great signing, better than Lamela and on par with Bergwijn, but not an essential signing.

The way I see this window going is we’ll get CDM, RB and ST in for sure. Anything on top of that will be if players are made available or an opportunist signing arises, like Bergwijn was.

Lloris
Tanganga? Alderweireld Dier Davies
Winks Sissoko
Lucas Lo Celso Son
Kane

Gazzaniga
Foyth? Sanchez Carter-Vickers? Rose?
Ndombele? Skipp? Sessegnon
Lamela Alli Bergwijn

Not named, Alfie Whiteman, Jack Clarke, and Aurier/KWP since we're assuming them out the door.

Reasonable people can disagree on whether we have midfield quality, but there's no depth there at all.

The only place we have depth is non-line leading attacking players.

The new stadium is a blessing and a curse - I wouldn't be surprised if we funnelled profits straight into that project (while also making ourselves look better to the banks through our 'sustainable' neutral spend). If we'd have taken the handbrake off more like Liverpool and backed Poch while simply staying at WHL, perhaps we'd be in a very different position right now.

To be clear, I'm no ENIC fanboy and while I commend them for improving the club and getting us to a higher level with an amazing infrastructure (albeit with debts to pay off) I want them to sell up ASAP. I'd rather they be looking to cash in than look at how much we'll keep paying into the coffers and bleed us dry while never actually challenging for more than a top 4 finish (see the Woolwich ownership).

Agreed Lucas is a key player for the Jose system.

I do think Bailey would be an interesting addition especially as he can provide cover for Kane. He is hard working, technically very good and has pace to burn.

I would add a CB to you list if we sell Foyth.

MF- GLC, Ndombele, Alli, Winks, Sissoko, PEH, Fernandes, Skipp that is 8 players for what is usually 3 spots in our line-up. If you have another 3 in the "second" team that still has two guys looking for minutes.

Wingers- Bergwijn, Son, Lamela, Moura, Sess- 5 guys for what is usually 2 spots and each one could play in MF if needed.

The quality isn't there outside of the top 2 guys in each spot but there is plenty of bodies and that is without including any youth players that could be added.

CB as well has Toby, Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga and probably a new add. So 5 guys for 2 starting spots and then 2 spots for the 2nd team.

I don't trust Moura to keep playing this way and being willing to stay on the outside moving the ball to players that should have it, which is not him.

I also don't trust Jose to not play him over better players (Bergwijn) and continue to hamstring our squad.

However, if he is willing to realize what his best role is and is not in the first 11 then I am more fine with him staying than I would have been. However, if we can get a decent fee for him getting a player in that is more creative and not a liability with the ball at his feet would likely be better for the team rather than keeping him.

Can you remind me when Cardiff were in PL - because that's when your chart was taken from !
It was taken from 2014-2019. But that's not the point.

How can you possibly justify a dozen clubs, with far, far less revenue and operating profit than Tottenham Hotspur, injecting more money into their playing squad over a 5 year period?

If your'e seriously defending this shit, then quite frankly, your so far up Levy's arse its disturbing.
