What i don't get is after 6 years as basically 2nd choice left back, he's now ready to be the 1st choice left-back with no backup other than an 18 year old who's never played a first team game. Has Ben Davies suddenly become the new Roberto Carlos?

I'm not seeing any real logic there.
I wouldn´t say it´s about Ben Davies. From Jose´s perspective - we don´t need to agree with it -, Davies could be a legit 1st choice.

But it´s absolutely wrong that we are going to the season with just two recognized FB´s - assuming we are signing one of them. It´s not about finances, Covid-19, etc. You just don´t do that if you are a top club.

We have the best stadium in the world but we can´t have backup FB´s.

Well, Davies is a decent though limited player, and his particular set of skills just happens to be exactly what Mourinho needs to execute the one-sided wingback strategy he thought suitable for the squad he inherited. Davies can do a job given that role.

But having no depth there is a big problem, and that strategy *also* requires a dangerous, buccaneering RB who is a lot better than Aurier, and we don't have that.

I am not sure that Davies "can do a job" even given the limited role he is asked to play in this system. He was often caught out defensively last season and it is because he is too slow to cover anyone in any sort of space.

He is lucky that he is allowed to hang back so deep so he doesn't get caught in many foot races and can back off enough to not have to have many one on one situations with the opposition, but this also makes it much easier on opposing teams knowing he isn't a threat and knowing they can easily back him up because he can't risk engaging them further up the field.

I know we will have to hear about money again but there is no way that better players like Reguilon, Hernandez, Taglifico, Digne or even youngsters like Lewis, Estupinan couldn't do the same job while offering a lot more than the basically nothing we get from Davies.

I'd say that top 3 this year isn't impossible. The inexperienced coaches at Chelsea and United could make a huge difference, especially if they start bad. And I have a feeling the Pep era at City is about to finish, hopefully with a fiasco year. And for how long can Liverpool keep playing propaganda football.
So you are saying there is a chance we will win the league?

16/17 - He played more than half the season
17/18 - Ditto
18/19 - First choice LB.
19/20 - First choice LB.

i also wonder how we havent sets up with a back up striker yet. We are desperate for one on January.
What is it about us that we almost never give it another go for a player we almost signed the previous window.
Its clear we want a target man kind of a striker. Shouldnt we have one ready by now?
I dont know who id rather have cause the lists is very wild which means Mou and the management are still deliberating. This is not a good sign, as it would potentially end up with a poor choice.

I quite like that Vedat Muriqi fella. Build like a stoic. Or Willian Jose? Maybe loan Jan Fiete-Arp from Munchen as 3rd choice? Inaki Williams?

There's over a month left of the window.

Maybe we can hold off on panicking?

Who is panicking?

And there is 10+ years of evidence of Levy and the transfer window.

Not sure why anyone would expect a shit Leopard to change his spots, especially when he has the "excuse" of Covid to explain away his cheapness and lack of improving the squad in areas of clear need.
