Serious question: do you think Davies is better than Serge?

I think as a footballer Davies is a better player. Serge has way more talent but no idea how to use it so Davies is the preferred player because despite his vast limitations at least he understands the game. Ideally though both would be upgraded on as neither is close to good enough.

I also think that Davies would be much easier to coach because although he limits what you can do, if you put him in a specific role (one that has zero ball playing or offensive responsibility and minimizes the space he has to cover defensively) you know that he can and will go out and do that. With Serge you can make all the plans in the world and he will just go out and do whatever the hell he wants, which is usually the dumbest thing possible.

would any of you take sorloth got loads of goals last season. seems different.

He seemed to really suck when he played with Palace and I would be concerned that his season last year in Turkey had more to do with the Turkish league than him improving.

If he was dirt cheap and the option was him or leaving the role empty again, sure but if he is the solution and takes money from being spent elsewhere than I think it is an easy pass.

Some interesting stuff in the new Jose quotes. He doesn’t seem to think we will be getting much money in from out goings because we will not sell “big” players or “important” players that command big fees.

Surely if he expects Ndombele to leave we should expect a decent fee for him. Letting him go at all after one season would be stupid, but letting him go on loan somewhere with an option to buy and no fee upfront to re-invest would be a monumental fuck up of the highest order.

I want him to stay but if he wants to go then we have to get a decent fee in return otherwise you tell him to suck it up.

Where for art though my hard-tackling, bastard-hard DM prince. :(

Davies has only cost us 4-5 goals in his entire time with us...a couple penalties come to mind. Aurier has cost us 4 goals in the last 6 months, and probably well over 10 in the last three years.

Now there is more to defending of course, but I think that speaks for itself.

it's like Alex telles I'm suprised no one's in for them. for me these two need chasing
Presumably out of our price range at the moment. I think Mourinho is thinking he can get by with a more limited player like Hojbjerg, because he'll be asking him to do a very specific defensive job. He'll sacrifice his attacking game to play a very limited defensive role patrolling the middle in front of the back 4.

In my opinion, Sørloth looked promising when playing for CP. He worked hard and got into scoring positions. He just lacked some luck and a ton of confidence. Now that he has had such a brilliant season in Turkey, the confidence issue may have been solved.

Not for us though. He should get a season as first choice for CP.

I thought Janssen was a perfect backup for Kane when we signed him...he certainly gave it everything, it just didn't work out. I don't think it was a failure on our part to buy him.
So as long as a player works hard it's ok to spunk money up against a wall for them?

Doesnt matter if they score one goal from open play in 2 and half years

He gave it his all for sure but how can you say it wasn't a mistake to sign him ?

Did you conveniently miss out the words "When we signed him" ?

Janssen was 22 when we signed him, was a Holland international with about 3 goals in 5 caps, including a goal against England in a game Pochettino purposefully watched him for and coming off the back of a 31 goal season (in 49 games) in Holland and all for £15,000,000.

That wasn't a failure of a signing at the time, which the poster is saying.

Janssen didn't work out.

Pochettino gave him 12 starts for us in his debut season. He scored 6 goals throughout that campaign and got 4 assists.

He didn't give him a single start over the next 2 years and he made about 40 minutes over the course of 24 months.

Is that really a failure on Janssens part?

Use that logic and no signing that has ever been made in football was a mistake at the time then

If you are gonna use the old hindsight argument you can say that most signing that have ever happened have made at least some sense at the time

Doesnt mean the club haven't fucked up in the process and could have avoided doing so
