The way I saw it at the time, firstly it wouldn't have been 'benching' Kane as such as he was coming back from injury, but more so I thought it would have been better to bring him on for the final 30 mins and extra time if necessary, what he had in the tank (not much in hindsight) might have been more useful against tired defenders. He was never going to be subbed off in the final unless injured as that would have been way more outrageous than not starting him so it left us lumbered for the entire game.

Added to the fact that Lucas simply deserved the start for almost single handedly dragging us there and to me it was a ridiculous decision. Almost like bringing on Eric Dier as the final sub when chasing a goal...
I do especually agree with the last paragraph.

I'd like to think they were happy enough with Kane's fitness to deem him suitable to start. It'd be naive to pretend there was no element of player power regarding it, but even Kane would take orders if the implication was he'd get to come off the bench.

Ultimately, I think the Sissoko handball penalty fucked us so hard and allowed Liverpool to play defensively in a fashion that really fucked over Kane, regardless of whether he was half fit or 100%.

This is killing me. At that price nonetheless. Was hoping they got hijacked.

Lille got a lot of interesting players and they now seemed to have a relationship with Woolwich.
Probably the Brazilian draw... Luiz might be polarizing among fans but team mates love him. Edu, Willian, Luiz and Martinelli make them the obvious choice I guess.

Will make the nld even spicier with the Argie VS Brasil factor, love it though

Those games were incredible to experience but we basically saw a miracle to get through to the final.

I don't entirely disagree in that I think Lucas should have started the final, at the very least because he earned it, but just imagine the shitstorm from benching Kane and still losing.

Let's also not pretend like some 'correct' team selection would have gifted us a win that day. Liverpool deserve credit.
Liverpool were rubbish on the night

Poch never arranged an interview with a paper on the eve of a match and never categorically came out and criticised club policy in the way that Rose did

They really aren't fair comparisons
Poch did however on the eve on the final say he’d leave if we won it.

It’s a cop out......if I agreed with everything Rose said, I would not for one second want him out for saying it.
Makes zero sense.

So were we. Both looked like teams who were on the beach/hadn't played for weeks (which makes sense given in context)

But I still maintain that no team selection changes that.
Hindsight is 20-20 but I still wish we had started Lucas in the final and had Kane available as an impact sub. Said that before the final and I’ll say it again. There was no reason to start an unfit Kane - I get it he’s our talisman but you have to dance with the girl that brought you.

You don’t think playing Moura on the back of the semi would have changed the energy in attack from an injured Kane who couldn’t run and hadn’t played for ten weeks?

How so?
I did say previously that my preference would have been to start Lucas (again, like I said, even if simply because he'd 'earned' it from the Ajax semi).

Assuming everyone behind the scenes agreed that Kane was fit, then I don't see the problem with that. I'd have started them together.

Not entirely sure where you're getting the 'couldn't run' from. Kane looked no worse than any of our other starters in the final IMO.

I'm incredibly reluctantly to let agendas cloud reason on something like this. If you have a particular axe to grind then you can hide behind a 'what if' as much as you like, safe in the knowledge you can speculate with nothing to absolutely prove you wrong.

It’s not an agenda though it’s simple facts.

We came through 4 games without Kane prior to the final (was 0-0 when he went off v City) so I find it a bit far fetched to claim there was 4 miracles (or three of you discount the Ajax loss)

The back up came in and got us to the final. Losing our main striker yet the back up Striker and AM who cost a combined 40M may I add, did their job.

How is it ENICs fault because Poch then dropped them for an injured player. How can anyone claim he was as fit as the rest of the team? His return game after a 10 week lay off with an ankle injury (a reoccurring weak point and second lay off of the season) was the CL Final.

On the back of Amsterdam it was unacceptable and a weak and predictable team selection.
That’s on the manager not ENIC.

I don’t get saying Moura should have started then claiming it makes no difference to you.

Every time another team signs someone, there's always some boring fuckers on here who moan that we should have signed them.

Shut the fuck up.
