Levy is right when he says that spending big doesn't mean winning. Everton, United and West Ham have spent big in recent years, Fulham got relegated after spending £100m. It's not that simple.
We need to buy the right players, that is where we have gone wrong. With our limited resources we cannot spend almost £100m on an injured Sessegnon and a flabby Ndombele and have them do nothing for a whole season. We have to stop getting fleeced, I hope Bergwijn and PEH are the start of a more sensible transfer strategy. Two good players with potential for a reasonable price. I will be happy if we make 2 or 3 more signings like that and leave the massively risky mega-signings to other clubs.
All our successes in the transfer market have come from the under £25m category, Modric, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele, Dier, Trippier, Son, Toby, Jan, Lloris, etc we all got great value from them. Every single player who cost more than that has struggled.
