Villa and Woolwich aside, they were all better than us and have added to that.
All we've done is replace the (formerly) great Toby with an unproven Romero (may be great, who knows) and perennial injured Lamela with 20 year old Gil.
Nowhere are we actually stronger.
NES is going to have to pull off god levels of coaching to get us higher than last season as he's unlikely to get the tools to help him
Whether we are stronger will only manifest in the fullness of time, though I do get your point.

However, your last sentence is just a bit over the top. Last season we were effectively a win or three away from CL qualification, and that was after the wheels fell off midway through the season. We dropped a shedload of points from winning positions due to effectively stopping all of the things that got us into winning positions in the first place. Even if we only reach par on squad strength after this window, the coaching doesn't need to be "God level" to improve on that.

I can accept that certain teams around us appear to have strengthened 'on paper', but who is to say their players will be any better in strengthening them than ours will us?

Nuno appears to be coaching them well so far. It remains to be seen whether that will make the points difference to elevate us back into those CL places we crave.

Skipp and Sess improve the squad, possibly the 11 and if we move on four or so of the zombies like Sissoko, Winks, Aurier and a CB, that also improves us (simply not having them involved)

I fully accept and often state we were only a few late individual errors from top 4 last year.
We also got points in games by digging in and weathering storms though. I can't see us doing that under anyone but Borinho with the current squad. No one else will put 2 midfielders in front of the back 4 for 90 minutes.

This is way too much to expect of them. They're children.

And what did that achieve? United got Berbatov and we got Fraser fucking Campbell.
Whooptiedoo, we squeezed United for a few million extra and ended up with no Berbatov, no Keane, and Fraser fucking Campbell.

It's about accepting that Kane is going and about mitigating that loss for the good of the team, not for a headline number.
I'd rather take £10m less now and go and sign (say) Vlahovic and Martinez with that money before the window shuts, than hold out out a fee that makes you happy and we end up with some prat from Portugal on loan with an option to buy. Then next summer, when said prat is sent home with 4 goals to his name and the football economy has recovered, we can't afford any quality strikers because the foreign clubs are all back at the table.
If it was only £10m less then I would agree but we are talking £30-£40m difference in price here. That's another top signing.

Trouble is we have a history of doing things like this

Nah, the trouble is believing everything you read no matter how crappy the source is.

and the clock is winding down with a lot of problems to solve.

18 days left of the window.

- Tommy - easy to close if that's the way we choose to go.... Lets not forget he got hurt at the Olympics which may have delayed things.
- ST2 needed (persistent noise on that front)
+ a tweak to the MF if rumours are to believed.

......Anything else is a bonus.

I'm calm.... But then again I don't listen the Ukranian podcasts. : P

Impossible. I have it on good (well I say good, I mean mendaciously dubious) authority that they are either great out the womb or shit and no fucking about playing football and whatnot is going to change that.
No, my friend you have that wrong. Perhaps this is the genesis of our problem and why you never seem to understand why a youth product won't make it and continue to overrate them. I've said it many times and in your haste you've even utilized it in one of your own arguments. You believe "youth player for Spurs = one to keep an eye on = future WC player" and I look at the player and give them a floor and a ceiling so I have an idea what their scope for improvement is...whether they are loaned or given a handjob by Zidane. Some players raise their ceilings ( see Harold F Kane, striker of Pep's Man City) but the vast majority do not. And to the aforementioned point that you 'made your own', it's the raw materials my friend.
Fuck the process (as my home boys NWA like to say)...
Process only matters if there is truly a plan with clearly stated and measurable goals. Just rubbing your hands together and proclaim all that isn't success a process is a sham.
some millions of pounds and a Lamela I believe.
What's "a Lamela" worth? Was it a multiplicative penalty of our cost for Bryan or just additive?
You're painting a picture of a Spanish Jack Clarke.

Yay...
No, he's got more guts than what I've seen from Clarke but he also hasn't taken an English league hit yet. So that may change. Last year Ferran Torres (young and pretty fearless in La Liga) had an interview about taking a hit. Early in the season he was bold, everywhere, taking people on. In the middle of the season he kinda disappeared for a bit after a particularly tough one. So we shall see with Bryan who is more dribbler (thus more opportunity for the hit) than Torres.
