The scum have done less business than us!
City chelsea bought 1 player both for 100 mil.
Liverpool 1 player.
Villa have bought a lot of players in my opinion only ings was decent business. Only proven player.
I will give you leicester have done good business in fairness they always do
Villa and Woolwich aside, they were all better than us and have added to that.
All we've done is replace the (formerly) great Toby with an unproven Romero (may be great, who knows) and perennial injured Lamela with 20 year old Gil.
Nowhere are we actually stronger.
NES is going to have to pull off god levels of coaching to get us higher than last season as he's unlikely to get the tools to help him

makes the kane fee absurd then, if watkins is 80 kane is 250
What about Grealish 100M for a winger who missed 3 months last season 15 Goals and 15 Assists over the last two season for an advanced winger who most the play goes through at Villa and goes down when their is a strong wind. The fact is City don't seem to really want Kane and I think they would be happy waiting a season and throwing their hat in the races for Mbappe and Haaland.

There’s no right model unfortunately.
Shearer won nothing but personal accolades. Newcastle had their neutral fanbase before shearer and never really challenged again after keegan.
they were making the investment as the 2nd best team on the country - we’re selling the best cf in the uk whilst languishing in 6/7th place to take a punt on another striker few have seen much of.
Shearer was a sure thing as was Cole.
kane is too but is vlahovic?

It's funny, when I think back on how good a player was, I don't really consider trophies, medals, records, championships, teams they played for or ballon d'or they have won but how they played.

Sometimes it's the squad or club that wins those things, Joe Hart won two League titles with City because they were the best team, not because he was the best player.

Frank Lampard is one of the highest premier league scorers as he was in an amazing squad who played to his strengths, not because he was the best forward.

So for me as a fan I look back on moments of brilliance, guile, ability to galvanise a team and drag them through a match.

Do I look at Berba's medals – nope, I think about his sublime control, his swagger and vision, not in a single match but over and over again. Bale, sure he won loads at RM but it's that game against Inter Milan, those strong runs at the end of a game, coming on and winning the CL final against Liverpool. Not the titles but the moments in a game.

So records and titles for me as a fan mean little, they are just stats. Do I know what Van Basten won or do I remember that goal in the Euro 1988 final?

We are a little bit stronger because we go rid of that travesty of a manager called Mourinho.

Well, in case you missed it, Alan Shearer went on to become Newcastles all time highest scorer, the premier leagues highest scorer, multiple golden boot winner. Keegan left for no apparent reason and Newcastles continued to qualify for the Champions League for a number of seasons and gained a decent fanbase in the process.
Their problems came, funny enough, as Shearer got older and more injury prone. They didn't/couldn't sell him so couldn't replace him. Eventually he retired and they went down.

So we want to copy that model?
Shearer is the PL top scorer but it is a fact that almost 45% of those goals were scored for Blackburn in four seasons. Quite a big drop off when he went to Newcastle.
Just thought i’d Drop that in.

Don't forget Ricky Villa for his goal against City. Litteraly the only thing I know about his whole career at Spurs. Berba I think it was one game against Wigan where he took down the ball with one of the most beautiful controlling headers I have seen and Robbie Keane that goal against Blackburn.

Djimi Traore has a CL winners medal with Liverpool from Istanbul. What do we remember about him...he was probably the worst left back they have ever had.
Players are described as World Cup winners when some of them came on as sub in one match and did nothing.

Romero > Toby so technically we are stronger.

Why would Villa sell him? They don't need the money and they could be on for a very good season.
Depends on the player as we are witnessing with Kane. When they wanna go they usually get their way. I'm not advocating this move, he is decent but I'd rather we look elsewhere, however he is someone the club has scouted a lot when he was at Brentford so there is a long standing interest in him and I'm just speculating that he may be an option if Kane leaves.

On the face if it, it looks like the club would make the club a £17 profit here but they doesn't factor in VAT, overheads, staff salary etc.
The outcome is always the same, the club just don't make a lot of money out of shirt sales.
You wonder why premier league clubs haven't bought some Hong Kong sweat shop and made their own kits to maximise profits. I can't believe Nike don't make more than what they pay Spurs. So theoretically, Spurs could make the kits themselves and sell them and put all the profit back into the club. AND have control over the design.
Agreed, I was just trying to illustrate that the club gets one lump sum, some volume bonuses and then a small profit margin on the shirt like any other retailer. As a result anything that ever says ‘the transfer paid for itself in shirt sales’ is an absolute lie.

The break even/loss point on the the contract is true for the larger manufacturers but the smaller ones probably do make a skinny profit.

No large club will ever buy their own factory to make their own kit because they will lose out on the guaranteed lump sum from the manufacturer and as a result it is just way too risky. In the lower leagues where that lump sum is non existent many clubs will either make their own kit or outsource it to another manufacturer. This is far less risky because for the smaller clubs the club shop is the only place where you can buy the shirt from and they don’t have to worry about the lump sum because they weren’t getting it anyway.

The outsourcing is why you will see some random league 2 club with a basic template Nike or Adidas kit from time to time. I believe Brighton have a hybrid of this approach (very small Nike lump sum but Brighton pay significantly less for the shirts from Nike).

Not said much but really it's not hard to say if Ben White is worth 50 million. Harry kane is worth way more than 120. And even 150 m. A player who scores and creates as many as him and worldwide status is 180 to 200million easy in today's mad money. Fact if he goes for anything less its a major let down. As for the season starting it's very piss poor we haven't got more players in with the fixtures we start with I look at the defence and it's scary. If we pick a suspension or early injury up.
