I think the reasoning was sound.

By falsely claiming there was no concerted, reasonable effort to replace Bale, VDV & Eriksen?

We haven't even sorted a backup striker yet. As usual we'll sell too late to do anything, probably whilst being heavily linked to genuine class which will of course prove to be difficult to get over the line.

It's a broken record and a terrible song to begin with.

Like I said it's not my point to deny you the right to predict X or Y.

Like you said... We'll soon see.

Do you think we adequately replaced any of them? Do you think we made a serious attempt to replace players like Berbatov and Carrick?

The one time I felt that we did a great job of replacing a player was bringing in Dembele for Modric, and even that took a while to become apparent.

Obviously I hope I'm wrong and somehow we improve as a team after selling Kane, but I really don't think we will bring in even a half-decent striker.

You need to make your mind up:

Are we:

- Talking about how well the signings panned out?
- Where they were last minute 'trolly-dashes'?
- Whether you rate the player?
- ...Or whether we tried to replace X or Y?

I countered your comments as per how they were originally stated.

If this is just gonna zoom out into a general "Spurs are shit at transfers" bash up; I'll bow out now, cos it's a never ending argument with lots of hits and misses over the last 20 years.

How'd we do replacing Gazza? Linekar? (Joking.... Let's not go there either)

Do you think we made a serious attempt to replace players like Berbatov

Well given the least minute raid Fergie & Berba conspired to pull we weren't really left with much time do anything; but no we fell short of replacing him.

Can't recall the circumstances/incomings that summer tbh. Fill me in if you wish.

I guess the general counter point here (Berba, Bale.... Kane?) is that only certain clubs have the appeal to replace one superstar with another straight off the rack; regardless of whether they pull in a fat fee for the outgoing player. The rest of the food-chain are forced to try and 'rebuild' and replace their output in other ways (Even with Modric > Dembele - As you go on to mention; that takes time to bear fruit).

The one time I felt that we did a great job of replacing a player was bringing in Dembele for Modric, and even that took a while to become apparent.

Touche.... This kinda feeds into a fair defense of the Bale situ tho'..... No, the 7 didn't immediately flourish, but Eriksen was part catalyst for getting back into the CL(*)... Alongside excellent purchases of long term contributors such as Hugo, Jan & Moussa.

(*Fair to say Lamela had his fans... As did Chadli too. It certainly didn't rank as a last minute troly dash either.)

Obviously I hope I'm wrong and somehow we improve as a team after selling Kane, but I really don't think we will bring in even a half-decent striker.

Regardless of Kane.... If we don't buy an ST2 then would justify criticism.

Silva would be the highest pedigree player we’ve signed this millennium, who is still in their prime (ie not Edgar Davids type).

He was on the six player shortlist for PL POY just two seasons ago. He’s a rolls Royce player, we need creativity. Won the league 5 of the last 7 season in Portugal, France, and England.

Can’t be bothered to go back and looks through, but I highly doubt we’ve ever signed a player this millennium who has made a PL team of the season, let alone shortlisted for POY. And he’s still only 26.

People seem excited for the Sarr link for 45m but wouldn’t want Silva for similar value. Boggles the mind honestly.

I bet he can't wait to board his Learjet and land at the gin palace.

No, it's not because they ARE doped. It's because they were doped.
Bottom line is, ENIC have put similar money into Spurs but instead of putting it into the team. We now make money in non-prize related endeavours but we fail on the pitch.

If you believe Chelsea will just go away without Abramavic or that it's even likely to happen you're in lala land.

It seems Romans loans are still coming in, with no sign of ever being paid back, so ARE doped is a fair statement.

That aside, if you think that because a team is in the CL now they will be in perpetuity then it's not just me in lala land...

And accepting they will likely miss out at some point - where is it the huge disparity in income in their favour?

Bearing in mind we've set ourselves up to make money hand over fist and they're in a much smaller prehistoric stadium...
