Not saying that we should do all of our shopping there. But Palace have 17(!) players with contracts that expire at the end of the season. 16 if you don't count Batsman.

Remember Connor Wickham? Does Palace remember Connor Wickham?
Wouldn’t take any. Clyne and Van Aanholt could have been decent back up full backs 2-3 years ago. Not anymore. Mitchi is superfluous if we take Vinny full time.

This is just a quick analysis comparing our centre back options, not going off rumours or anything but just players in the right bracket who we could target (stats according to Whoscored)

I'm fully aware that stats are a pretty awful way of judging defenders but still worth a look, all these guys have played just about every game for their teams this season

Schlupp is not half bad either. Always tends to turn up against us.

And it may sound like heresy, but Benteke is actually scoring this season. Already scored more than his last 3 seasons.

If we need a bench option to Kane that offers something different. Why not go for someone that is a literal free transfer?
I know a few palace fans and all of them think Benteke is a donkey! I would rather play parrot who has no experience in the PL over Him

Maybe I'm deluded, but I would say we are challenging for top 4 this season (I think we will go on a bit of a run now). CB is by far our biggest weakness so if we got two in I'd say its a bit defeatist to say that would make us challenge for top 4.

The way I see it, there are four key deficiencies in our squad. Right back, the two centre backs and AM. We may already have the cure to our number 10 issues if one of Dele or GLC is back up to speed next season so it's in defence we need to strengthen. I actually think the rest of our starting line up are good enough outside of those areas to be in a team challenging for a title. Hugo is the other question mark but looking at the other keepers out there I don't think there are too many attainable ones better than him.
Agree on all those positions, but Hugo is a big reason for our shocking defence, scared shitless to come off his line these days. Sorting out a new keeper and 3/4 starting defenders won’t be easy and will take a bit of bedding in but long term it’s completely necessary

I get the point maybe its more that we would've cemented top 4 with 2 better CB'S

Where do people think we're going to get the money for transfers from? We won't even pay the 40 million for CV.

I think 40m for a backup ST is a lot anyway.

I think we should be able to move on some fringe players and then hopefully if the COVID siuation is good we should be able to get a lot more revenue ahead of next season meaning the club will be more comfortable to spend money

Kounde is the only one I'd want out of that lot.

Unfortunately, he's probably the most expensive too. We missed the boat by not signing Fofana instead.

Here's an example of the business I'd like to see us do

Bring back Oliver Skipp and now he's part of the first team

This will allow us to then sell one of Winks or Sissoko. Add to that the fee we should get if we sell Juan Foyth and there we have a bit of money + some club cash to put towards a good CB.

We should work like this and be sensible with the In's and out's

We say that every year, clubs will feel the financial losses of covid for years. No champions league this season and its a fair bet there won't be any next season also.

We won't pay the 40 million because it is a ridiculous amount.

We will get the money from the same places every other club will, sales and money we made and/or had in reserve.

Who you think we're going to sell? It took the whole summer to get CV in, I got no confidence that we'll get a decent striker for a good price.

I think we could sell any of:

Sanchez
Aurier
Sissoko
Winks
Moura
Lamela
Dier
Doherty
Bergwijn
Lloris

Ideally we would sell all but Bergwijn but plenty of options for us to sell.

Why would we sell Aurier he has been good this season, getting an upgrade wouldn’t be easy unless we wanted to spend decent money.

As for Lucas, Bergwijn, Lloris and Sanchez I think we would want a decent offer to release those.

Doherty, Dier, Sissoko and Lamela I can see going.

We could be surprised but the only ones I could see likely being sold from that list are:

Lamela
Winks
Sissoko
Maybe Moura

Who I'd like to see gone is a little longer list.

I don't think we will sell all of them, even though it would be nice, just that those are all guys I could see being sold.

I would say Winks, Sissoko and Sanchez are the most likely to be sold, unless Sanchez somehow maintains his play against Burnley for the whole season but that seems doubtful.

I would sell Aurier because I don't think he has been as good as many here think and he still has shown he has a lot of brain dead moments in this game and times he turns off. He also is 29 years old so will need to be replaced sooner than later and has asked to leave.

I don't think we will get much for Doherty and doubt we could sell both and bring in two new RB's this window, so I prefer to get more money for Aurier for a new, younger RB and have Doherty in reserve as the back-up. If you could get similar amounts for both I am fine keeping Aurier and selling Doherty. I just think that with money likely being tight the extra money Aurier could bring in is worth it.
