I think people confuse communism with socialism private enterprise and a mixed economy are perfectly in line with socialist principles. I think if anything the pandemic has made lots of folk realise unfettered free market economics isn't the panacea folk once thought. Any way sorry to the board for subverting the forum we'll take it outside.
The level of state intervention is actually quite high in the US, and the US spends an absolutely exorbitant amount on socialist programs. It's actually turning into a joke about conservative farmers complaining about the welfare state and self-sufficiency, when the farm lobby has enormous subsidies and support programs designed to keep farmers in business even if they're complete failures.

We just don't get credit for these programs because for the most part they're extremely poorly administered and inefficient programs, which I blame partly on a successful run of about 50 years in which we were able to solve most all of our problems by throwing more money at them. That started to turn about 20 years ago, and we still haven't learned any lessons yet.

Is it socialism if they are directing towards corporations?

As per earlier stream of conversation in this thread:

Geezer is blinkered as fuck considering Barca's pro-ESL stance, but nice to at least see someone firing these kind of shots....

It’s not La Liga’s fault Barca and Real are conspiring with PSG to destroy them.

Tebas deserves an awful lot of credit for holding the line against Barca’s naked attempt to leverage the threat of Messi leaving the league to break their financial rules.

Now, do the rules ultimately make a great deal of sense? I’m not sure. But demonstrating that they are credible and enforceable is a positive step.

Yeh, scrub my comment about being blinkered..... When posting my head was in a space thinking about FCBs chairman. #Brainfart.

Good to see the term "state-clubs" being used.

France striker Anthony Martial will be free to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old is open to staying in the Premier League but could explore opportunities on the continent, with Barcelona a possible destination. (Eurosport)

As much as Levy is to blame for where we are, Poch wasted a lot of his transfer windows chasing overpriced crap like Berahino.

......And getting hung upon on players like De Jong & De Light who already had their sights set on the likes of Barca.

......And turning down players like Madison on the basis of mentality; in favour of mental heavyweights (ahem) like Gio & Ndombele.

Saw some reports Conte wants Stefan de Vrij. If we can pull that off our defense will be sorted. Romero and de Vrij could, would, and should be a very Jan and Toby like partnership. Rate him so much. Not that 'young' anymore though.

Jan and Toby was a two season relationship, when Toby got injured he came back half the player.

Romero looks like the second Davinson. Might be able to pass better, but so much of his game is dodgy, his positioning is suspect, his awareness is at times very poor. Add in De Vrij has turned down moves away from Inter as he was desperate to play for them.

He would be a truly excellent addition, but I struggle to see him leaving Inter for us unless we are very much on an upward trajectory.

Okay I’ve got this worked out.

  1. Vlahovic is a non-negotiable must, has to get done.
  2. Bring Kessie and Brozovic in on frees. With Sarr coming in as well, hopefully we have enough for a functional midfield.
  3. Go huge at CB, at least 2 in. With Brozovic and Kessie on frees, we should be looking to spend 80-100m on CBs, Sanchez had value this summer and some English club will pay 15m at least for Dier. Bastoni, De Vrij, Torres, etc. as options.

Doubt Vlahovic is a must. I love the player but there's others out there. Not sure how we fit Kane, Vlahovic and Son in the same regular starting XI. The likes of Gouri and Nkunku would be worth considering in the 30-50m bracket. Now, if Conte priorities Vlahovic that's a different story.

How would we meet HG quota?

Your comments about Romero are both ignorant and hilarious. Hilarious in how wrong they are.
