- We have quality.
- We have game-changers.
- "Marquee signings" is just a load of guffy Jim White-ism.

Rich - 50-60m
Romero - 50m
Ndombele - 60m
Lo Celso - 40m
Sanchez - 40m
= We're prepared to spend if we want the player.

I truly think that the money was there, but the options that Hitchen recommended were poorly scouted in the extreme, i men how many actually came i and were game changers?

I think the arrival of Romero demonstrated that the talent was out there and available. The fact that we are back in the CL meant that Levy had little option but to invest if he wanted to eat at the top table every season.

Next season could be our most decisive in the clubs history, as Levy has now gone all in.

There simply is no turning back.

We don't need "statement signings" we've had two of the best four players in the league for the last 3 seasons. We just need to make sure they are surrounded by other good players who fit the system of our world class manager and that we have the necessary depth.

We're well on our way to achieving that with January's window and this window.

In the last seven months we've added a world class manager and probably five to six first 11 players (Perisic, Bentancur, Bissouma, Kulusevski or Richarlison, and probably another CB and Spence).

Counting Romero last summer and Skipp coming back as PL starter quality, we've actually finally painfully rebuilt and there's still more coming. Our squad on matchday 1 will be massively different from the final game of 2020/21.

Post of the day.

From last season the wingbacks. , CM, and more quality in depth at the back.
I’m not saying Dier is world class but he is a very good player in a back 3 imo and won’t be easy to upgrade on

People wanna convince themselves that Romero single-handedly transformed our defense cos he's the jazzy, exotic, hipster's choice... He's the bollocks, but the fact is we looked a mess in most games where Dier wasn't beside him.

It's pretty wild if you look at it, the below was our EFL Cup Final lineup against City in 2021. Bench that day was Bale, Bergwijn, Ndombele, Dele, Sissoko, Lamela, Sanchez, Hart, Tanganga.

There's a decent chance that only 7 of those players are in our 18 man team for game 1 this year. That was only 15 months ago.

[FORMATION= 433, Lloris, Aurier, Toby, Dier, Reguilon, Winks, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Moura, Kane, Son,] [/FORMATION]

wingbacks look like they've been addressed with perisic, i thought doherty was class in his run before he got injured, when he finally got a run at actual wingback with the actual first team, looks like we will get spence too whos an upgrade on emerson. CM also been massively improved by the addition of bissouma.

yea dier is good for squad depth, so is davies, but as your main CB in a side thats looking to take on two juggernauts in liverpool and city...its laughable. the problem with dier is hes not good enough on the ball, and hes not good enough at actual defending either. the amount of goals we conceded from low crosses last year because hes let dangerous balls go past him in the box when he could of easily stopped it, or the fact hes very easily skinned (brighton). if he was exceptionally good at defending or on the ball then you could sort of justify having him as your main CB. but hes lacking in both areas when it comes to being in a side looking to take on the elite. to take on the elite you need elite players, we got an elite front line, we got a very very good midfield now, but the defence is weak bar romero. lloris we all know plays a lot better with a good defence in front of him, stick a few donkeys in front of him and he turns into a clown again.

Yes

We shouldn't pay 70m just because he had a good season, although Leicester have won more than us in recent years, we are a much bigger club and he won't be an automatic starter either, it's a much different pressure.

That's the going rate for homegrown these days especially with a player like Maddison, not saying we should pay it by I can see the club doing it, we got money to burn through and we need more HG players and Conte is specifically making noise about getting a creative mid.

Maddison fits the bill as he's the only one available who isn't already at a big club and is coming off a really good season.

So far this is our best team personally, but look at the strength in depth and options we have now. That 1st 11 is already a big improvement on last season. Obviously a few of those might be leaving. So excited and still more signings to come

We need a RWB 100x more than an attacking CM.

Our defensive stats under Conte were excellent...... With these so-called "donkeys" you're talking about.

He was good last year no question. But my point was I’m not sure if our poor performance when he was injured was due to poor depth.

Rom, Dav & Davies..... Stick any 2 of these in a 3 with Dier and they looked organised and tought to breach...... Play all 3 together; not so much.

....Obviously if we had someone with the same ability as Dier to slot in instead then there wouldn't be a drop off, but this just underlines what Dier IS bringing to the table.

There’s two things that stand out to me there, especially compared to our peak Pochettino teams.

1) That a side of seriously experienced adult footballers. Almost every one of the first 11 and top bench options has significant experience playing for top clubs and countries and has experience going far in the most elite club and international competition. When you look back at Pochettino’s teams it is crazy how young and inexperienced they were, including Mauricio himself. What they achieved was incredible but it’s not surprising they often faltered down the stretch. Totally different now.

2) Depth we’ve never really had. We were so susceptible to injury for years, now outside of an injury crisis we can basically cope with losing anyone, even our best players.

Thing is, although we felt painfully stretched at times; at one point we had:

Kane, Son, Proper-Dele, Eriksen, Lucas, Lamela & Llorente.
