Tottenham Hotspur believe that they are leading the race to sign Oscar Gloukh, and the Sunday Mirror (10/7; page 74) reporting that Spurs have now made contact about a move for the youngster.
Antonio Conte’s men have been one of the pace-setters in the transfer market in the Premier League. Clearly, much of their business has been done ahead of their pre-season tour.
However, it appears that there is more to come. And Gloukh is one of the players on Tottenham’s radar.
The 18-year-old is attracting attention after impressing for Maccabi Tel Aviv. He scored three goals in eight games from attacking midfield last season.
In fact, Spurs have already made contact about a possible move for Gloukh. And Tottenham think that they are the ones leading the charge for his signature.
Maccabi meanwhile, want up to £10 million for their starlet, who has been likened to Yossi Benayoun.
One of the few criticisms made about Conte’s management is that the impact he makes almost favours the short-term just too much.
Signing someone such as Ivan Perisic may not really benefit Tottenham down the line. But it is a fantastic signing for the next couple of seasons.
However, Spurs are indeed keeping one eye on the team coming through. They have some amazing prospects already in the ranks, being led by Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine.
Signing players such as Gloukh would clearly be an exciting deal. Clubs such as Ajax and Dortmund uncover some incredible gems. And they both want him now.
So, Tottenham going on to win the race could really be significant.
Good player. Very composed, but it would be a small gamble. Israeli players sometimes find it hard to adjust to physical football and there’s the question of his conscription
