A creative midfielder can’t do much for us if we can’t get him the ball. Conte’s system requires technical center backs that can both pass well and carry the ball forward. They need to be comfortable using their options to commit and beat the first man. We’ve seen Romero do it which is why (among other things) he’s our best defender. My hope is Lenglet can do it as well. Conte just has to be bold and play him ahead of Davies.
It’s no slight on the likes of Davies and Sanchez, but they haven’t displayed these abilities for the most part. Davies does like to carry the ball forward occasionally, but I wonder if Lenglet would be the more complete CB for our system.
This is for Conte to sort out, our pass maps over the past few games have been pretty embarrassing. Romero being out has definitely played a part, but we can’t always rely on him staying healthy.

agree, he just got rid of two CAM on a free. He has no interest , he no doubt would've played Zaniolo as a wide forward or even wing back before he paired him up with Holjberg up played a 3 man mid
If Sarr and Gil stay we have 18 non-HG for UCL.
However we could not include them in the UCL squad but they would still be available for EPL as U21.
Meaning we could still sign a non-HG (which I believe we will).
EPL squad is 14 non HG + 9 HG =23 plus U21s.
UCL squad (minus Sarr and Gil) would be 16 non HG + 7 HG =23 plus U21s.

Yep think you nailed it. Sanchez and Davies are good defensive cover but they can't play out of the back. Sanchez especially when he's first outlet is Emerson.
