Arthur Theate is not my first choice LCB (that's Gvardiol who would cost £50m) but I am warming up Theate. He.s young, fairly good in the air and a (very) good passer. And just turned 22. He will, of course, take some time to eg adjusted to the EPL and while he does that I am ok with Davies playing LCB until that happens (presuming Theate will "adjust," of course).

But who is Arthur Theate? Let’s analyze his career and technical characteristics and try to find out how he can contribute to the Rossoneri cause.

Arthur Theate was born in Liège on May 25, 2000 and grew up in football academies Standard he was born in Genk, the companies that annually churn out Belgium’s best talent. That the 2000 class had talent was there for all to see, as evidenced by the numerous convocations in the youth national team.

Yet, although he still showed enormous room for improvement, Theate was sold to Oostende, where he signs his first contract as a professional. The agreement signed with the Flemish club was expected to last three years, but the defender takes only one to establish himself as one of the best performers in the Pro League.

He only needed 38 appearances (seasoned with 5 goals) to convince Bologna to take him to the court of Siniša Mihajlović. Theate arrives in Emilia as a mysterious object, nothing is known about him, but the Serbian coach is not one who pulls back and throws him into the fray as soon as he has the chance. He made his debut with the rossoblùs on 18 September 2021, replacing the injured De Silvestri in the difficult match against Inter. The result was now compromised, but the San Siro audience was impressed by the charisma shown by that 20-year-old long hair and curiosity became admiration when he headed the only goal in Bologna in the 6-1 final.

15 appearances and 2 goals later, Arthur Theate has become one of the most intriguing young players in Serie A and many Italian big names and are not ready to invest large sums to take him away from Emilia.
The strength of Theate is undoubtedly its enormous flexibility. At home, the Belgian grew up in a four-man defensive line, but once he arrived in Bologna, Mihajlović weaned him, throwing him as a left “arm” in a trio.

Precisely that position seems to be the one in which the 2000 class can best express its characteristics. When the winger gets wider, he has the ability to get on the ball and set the action using his excellent technical skills. With Theate on the pitch, the rossoblùs can also afford to stay a little taller, given that with his speed he has no problem chasing their opponents.

In an emergency situation, the Serbian coach also deployed him as fourth on the left, with decent results, but in a not so distant future it cannot be ruled out that the Belgian may also position himself as a set-half in front of the defense. .

For Milan, Arthur Theate would not be an improvised solution, one of those players who can only be bought when you have the department in absolute emergency. Instead, it would fall within the green line undertaken by the club, willing to invest significant amounts on young people with an assured future.

If the purchase materializes, Stefano Pioli would first of all have a defender ready and informed about what are the defensive logics of a Serie A team. allow Theo Hernandez to breathe.

The only doubt is: would the 2000 class be able to have their say even in a top team like the Rossoneri? Arthur Theate, barring a presence with the Belgian national team, has never played in a great team and – honestly – we would be curious to see him wearing a “heavier” shirt.

If his name is actually pronounced "teat", I could be prepared to suckle up to this suggestion..... :pochsmirk:

I'd take Dybala on a free as long as wages were sensible and we structured it to protect us against him spending half the time in the medical room.

Not sure that kind of offer would be competitive as I can see someone like Woolwich offering no strings attached silly money on a 4 year deal.

I can see your point.
And to my eyes he did struggle with pace in Liverpool game - with first steps Pool defenders and midfielders got too close to him and he could not proceed. So he has some limitations.

At the same time I feel you are not doing justice to his output. I agree with your assessment of "human pin ball" regarding Moura - no one knows to which direction will the ball bounce off from his feet. But Deki has done more than this comparison suggests. To be better than pin-ball reference, it would have been enough to help us retain the possession and maybe play some cleaver passes. But in reality Deki has been laying out assists in nice frequency. He has set up 8 goals within 1200 minutes on the field. While Moura has managed 15 across 7733 minutes. One has assist for 150 minutes on field, other 515 minutes. At that - Deki had to get used to new league, while Moura has been here for years. When he first joined, he was trusted to only play 208 minutes of football and he provided 1 assist (no goals) in his debut season.

So yea- from one hand - comparison with Moura will put Deki in good light. On the other hand, his actual output is totally from different dimention as well. So he is not just slight upgrade. It is closer to switch from playing 10 against 11 and having 11th player added to team..

Fair points.

Okay random person on the internet, thank you for your input.
I feel confident in this position however.

Dybala is a relatively injury prone luxury player that doesn't like to put in defensive shifts or work particularly hard. He'd just be another Dele/Lo Celso/Ndombele for Conte to feud with.

It would also send pretty bad signals to Kulusevski. Who came here to get out of Dybala's shadow at Juventus.

Build on Dejan's good form and find a player that compliments him more to rotate with from the bench.

I agree to all that.

Would be nice to have someone who can hit the target at Free Kicks though.

Maybe one day, we’ll find someone.

Need to be aiming higher.
If Conte wants him, I'm all in. Give that man the keys to the bank.

Skipp, Bentancur, Hojbjerg and McGinn is a solid midfield 4 to alternate between.

Of course if Phillips or Bissouma are available at a similar price, then there is a decision to make, but if we can get McGinn for a low cost and throw Winks in, everybody wins.

It improves squad depth but doesn't raise the level of the first XI that's why I wouldn't go for it.
Would rather find a freebie to fill out numbers (Eriksen) and then spend 50m+ on a top CM than spend 35m on McGinn.
