If I could have one of them in my starting 11 right now its 100% Bissouma, Bellingham could obviously become a better player but we have absolutely no chance of signing him. He didn't move to Dortmund so his next move could be Tottenham, he wont move unless its to one of the European giants.

He's already better than Bissouma. Certainly far more gifted.

Bastoni and Romero flanking Dier wotld be ridiculous
that's the kind of lineup Man City would be happy with, assuming Bastoni fulfils expectations and Dier continues to develop as he has.

Dier may not quite be Kompany but he's clearly a leader than many teams don't have.

When does the Jobe Bellingham sweepstakes begin?

He'll probably follow his brother's pathway to Dortmund but wonder if we could throw the ol "best facilities" in England razzle dazzle to sneak him

Re: Dier

Not gonna lie, the lad keeps letting me down when I think he's about to take a leap to 'consistently top level quality defender' but I honestly think he's not far off again.

And his commitment to the team plus his fire is really an invaluable asset. You need players like that to develop a winning identity/culture.

It's just you need to surround players like him with a few mercs who cover for him sometimes lack of quality

He's what Xhaka says he is, what he wishes to be.

Dier is, like Xhaka, technically defficient, but he is a leader. He looks after the younger players, he (like Lloris) also gravitates towards South American/latin culture and the young boys like Bentancur, Romero, Royal etc. benefit from his leadership.

Says a lot that all our managers since Poch have trusted him fully.

sounds like having a competition winner in your side. how about just replace the bloke with a lack of quality, for someone who actually is quality, and the team is a lot stronger?

fans get too emotionally attached to these players, they are just blokes that get paid handsomely to kick a ball about. if they had the option of something better they wouldn't think twice about fucking us off. being a charity case to players has held us back for years, and wasted years of kanes career. clubs that win are ruthless when it comes to upgrading their team, we have to be the same if we want to compete.

There is no reason Dier can't be a mentor and guiding presence as depth CB. Often times, older players with tenure at the club take on that role anyway.

That being said, you can't buy 8 starters in a single window. LCB is a bigger priority than CCB in our squad this summer. Especially since RWB and LWB and CM are all just as pressing to improve as LCB.

CCB can wait with our options now.

He's not so low quality that we can just pop round to the shops and pick up a better option. He's not a charity case. He's struggled in the past, but he's earned his paycheck this season.

Without him Romero, Sanchez, and Davies clearly struggle to organise and keep a good defensive structure. It's an intangible asset that is hard to find.

You can see it with the gonners, Gabriel Megales(?) is clearly a better tackler than Dier, doesn't turn like an oil tanker but he's no leader, is prone to the usual gooner red card, same as Ben White.

With all the other posititions that need work, Dier is not a priority.

dier is not priority this window, but after this window he should be the weakest link (providing the new buys aren't flops). hes not champions league quality is he.

agree that LCB and LWB are bigger concerns for now, along with improving the CM and getting competition up top...then dier.

i wouldnt even get rid of him, hes ideal backup, especially as he could play CM in an emergency. would actually play him CM this weekend if bentancur cant play as it means we dont have to suffer winks.

having sanchez at the back and dier in midfield is stronger than having winks in midfield.

I'm not exactly vouching for Winks because he bleeds lily-white here lol

Dier has proven to have a lot to his game when paired with quality defensive partners. He's not someone you can build around but he's a great addition to a top squad. You can't go out and buy a new backline all at once. You need consistency. I just reckon Diet is a great player to keep that consistency rather than say Sanchez

You're gonna be disappointed if you think he's gonna be replaced by Conte, it difficult enough removing bedrocks and leaders in the team, it just doesn't happen because they are hard to replace. It's why he never got rid of David Luiz when he was at Chelsea.
