Theres a strong team spirit at the moment - sometimes you don't want to overload with too many new faces. Thats why I like the idea of getting Eriksen back - he would slot straight back in.

Who does come in and do that?*

*who is attainable
I said this a few pages back, but Denzel Dumfries was productive (5g, 4a) in a top-4 league playing wingback in a back 3. Very comfortable on the ball, but not a defender nor a great passer. With Dekki and Romero on his side I don't think he has to be. He's also fantastic in the air. We wouldn't have to wait for the potential of Spence or Singo to manifest itself if it ever does.

Considering the system, age, price (~30m), and lack of language barrier, I haven't read about anyone else available who'd help us day 1 more. There's no Hakimi out there, but we could do worse than the guy Inter replaced him with.

It's really not though. As per swiss ramble their total revenue has been comfortably below ours for several seasons now, including when we failed to get CL football.

They've spending big for a long time and it's been catching up to them. Which is why they sent out practically their entire depth on loan, and paid off Ozil, Aubameyang and others to fuck off, to at least save a couple mil on wages.

They can afford a £50m signing, but the rest have to be like Lokonga, Tavares, Cedric Souares etc. cheap/free, and not very highly rated.

And as you say white

Those 3 were over 100m this summer

Maybe it’s caught up with them this summer

yup, this was a big gamble for them, just try to close the gap to top 4. Well, it's failed, and there's a limit to what they can spend with lowest revenue among the big 6 clubs. As you said, there's also not much for them to sell these days.

They made a loss of 127m last season, which is 50m more than Spurs. If you extend it 10 years, they've made a net loss of 30m. If you consider how profitable they must have been in the first 5 years of the decade, it doesn't paint a good picture for their future.

Last season their revenue was 30m less than Spurs, keep in mind that we got bounced out of EL in R16 and they made it to the semi-finals, and that our fancy stadium was mostly empty.

Their wages were 30mn higher than ours last season. Which they have now trimmed by getting rid of the likes of Auameyang. Their transfer spending has been consistently one of the highest in the league since Wenger left, they're at their limit without veering into the Leeds, Everton, Leicester territory of blowing practically your entire revenue on wages and player transfers.

CL football for us could add another 100m+ if we made a decent run, and at least 40m even if we get kocked out in the R16. We have the financial muscle to outspend them if needed.

Good post

But you forget ‘they’re ahead of schedule’

(Somehow)

I am really interested to see what we look for at LWB. We have Reggie and Sess there at the moment and Conte seems fond of Sess. Ryan has also improved quite a bit after having a run of games.

Do we move Reggie on and bring in someone to fight with Sessegnon for the starting gig or are we looking to fully upgrade that position and bring in an automatic first XI type signing?

if we were in EL we could run with first & second 11's so backup players got a game most weeks in EL & cup matches leaving the first 11 for EPL, but being in CL and with new 5 subs rule we need a solid 17/20 First teamers, the manager need to "understand " how to use the 5 sub rule, hopefully Conte & his coaches will look at how different manager in EFL and around europe used the 5 subs in league matches
When he coached Inter, didn't they have the 5 sub rule?

Sess is not good enough for what Conte needs.

He’s been talking him up as he had little other options (with Reggy being injured or all over the place).

Fully expecting us to bring in two WBs.

Outgoings:

- Gollini (loan)
- Emerson (not a RWB)
- Reguilon (lost the battle with Sess, most likely RM will trigger the buyback, if not it'll be easy to find La Liga bidders for him)
- Rodon (loan him to a mid-table EPL side, the kid has talent)
- Sanchez (not consistent enough, he as well would prefer regular football instead of sitting in the bench)
- Winks (not good enough)
- Sarr (loan him to an EPL/Championship side, Norwich would be excellent)
- Lo Celso (Villarreal will get him, surely)
- Ndombele (Paratici will offload him, surely)
- Bergwijn (too good to be an impact sub, not good enough to contest the starting spot of Son/Kulusevski).
- Lucas (deserves a heroes farewell, but the same argument as Bergwijn).
- Gil (loan him to an EPL side, same as Rodon).

Incomings:

- Johnstone. Good backup, English, free. Could make some competition for Hugo.
- RWB. Spence looks done. He also looks like he has incredible potential, from what I've seen towards the end of the season for Nottingham he looks made for a Conte system.
- LWB. Someone like Kostic or Perisic would be great, Cucurrella would be incredible. A very outside chance of Cornet now that Burnley are down?
- CB. Bastoni or Laporte are the dreams, Pau Torres looks way more gettable because of Lo Celso. Will most likely need another CB since we're letting Dav go and need competition for Dier. Skriniar or Bremer would be great options.
- CM. Bissouma seems the perfect fit, Kalvin Philipps, McGinn or Jacob Ramsey are also great options, otherwise any chance we snatch De Jong from United?
- CAM. Eriksen would give us that creative spark that we've been missing for so long, and would also allow us to play a 3-4-1-2 instead of a 3-4-3.
- Striker/Winger. As mentioned previously, Gabriel Jesus is a great shout, however I'd like if we went for Sterling. To me he does everything Jesus does, but better, and he has a great understanding with Kane.

Considering CL football and the outgoings, it doesn't look that unrealistic no?
There is no way we are binning off and signing that many. It just doesn’t happen. Too difficult to keep harmony in squad, let alone the amount of negotiation involved in any separate deal in or out.

I would be surprised if we get more than 4 players who genuinely make an impact on the main squad. I would have said 3 but considering 5 subs next year…

LWB isn't anywhere near as bad as RWB. Sess was just beginning to look confident in that role and I think Reggie is capable of pushing him. Neither are the finished article but both bring something to the role. And both fighting for the same position will force them to improve their form.

We don't need to be spending money on a position that those two can cover.

Despite all this talk of 8 signings, we know that's not how we work. I'd be happy with 4 good players that can come straight into the team. A RWB, LCB, CM and an attacker that can play across the front line. Add in a useful free like Eriksen and we've massively improved the team/squad without going crazy.

This is why it is the most interesting position for me heading into this window. We all know we need significant improvements at RWB and LCB. We need depth in the midfield too. LWB is one where I think we can all agree it would be nice to get an improvement on the two we have but there are varying levels of confidence in both Reggie and Sessegnon.

If Real Madrid exercises the buy-back clause for Reggie, do we know when that would have to be triggered? I would guess that would have to be either at the start of the window or very early on, right?

Football.London is saying it's a £43M, not £28M. I can't see RM paying that.

Agree.

Sess has improved from what was a very low base. And fair play to him he did a job and stepped up when we need him. Definitely more defensively sound than Reg.

He's just so limited going forward.

Conte will want two wing backs that the opposition are scared of that can whip in dangerous balls for fun, have good technical quality and can beat their man and progress the ball.
