Being a free transfer obviously makes it more appealing for sure but I am not just going to forgive a year of poor performances and faux pressing just because of what has happened since then. There's more than one creative midfielder in the world and I would like to see a fresh face in that role for us.

Feels like unless we make a serious approach for Pau Torres we will have to try and find a different club to shift GLC on to, despite a CL semi run I would wager that Villarreal are as skint as the rest of the clubs outside the big 4 in Spain and even our lowest acceptable figure to "cut our losses" on him is causing them to baulk at the price, not to mention his wages will be considerably higher than most of their first XI.

Nobody adept at negotiations publicly announces the maximum they're willing to spend. As that immediately becomes the minimum the other party will accept.
