Makes a good point well - its no longer good enough to have a good first X1 its now necessary to have a good 18+ players where the drop off in quality across that number is not that great.

I'd even suggest we need 20/21 rather than 18+ , even if that isn't fully achieved this window, that's our target.

According to Telegraaf, Ajax reached an agreement with Tottenham for the transfer of the left-handed outside to red and white. It will be a €25 million plus bonus operation with the player signing a five-year contract with the spearmen.

Is not hard to understand the debate though. Madrid, City, Liverpool.. have depth but they still have a first choice in most positions. So will we.
 
No chance we sell PEH unless a 40+ offer comes in. The guy has played like 74 out of 76 PL games and even more overwhelming is he’s played all but 224 minutes! 38 full matches (3420 minutes) in 20/21 and 3196 minutes last season.

That’s super high for a CM.

tbh, I can understand the thinking, if we get the right replacement.

Bissouma and Skipp both defensively more solid than him IMO, so we're not desperate for defensive cover. As a box to box CM he is shockingly bad in the final third, he's got a nice pass in him, but like he showed against Norwich, Liverpool and many other times he struggles to do the basics inside the box.

Ideally we need a Bernardo Silva or Mason Mount type of our own, someone who can create and score goals. Doesn't have to be special, but just finish the basic chances that PEH constantly fluffs.

Having said that getting rid of PEH right now would be silly. Waaay too much disruption to the squad to sell a leader in the team, who has served the club well, on top of all the other outgoings.
 
Fabián Ruiz has only 1 year left of his contract with Napoli. Of course, with the addition of Bissouma, another CMF is not exactly a priority right now. 26 years old and adapt in a 2-MF formation, but can also play as an OMF or even out wide.

His stats are also pretty good. Fans don’t seem to understand that you can’t just bin off/ replace players like PEH, Dier etc…these guys are the core characters of our team who are most likely good friends with the rest of the squad.

Selling PEH, our most featured player - would not only piss of the squad but remove a chap who’s been instrumental in bringing the fan base back.

The likes of Dier, Hugo, Davies, Kane, Son are also so important for this season. Lose them to quickly and we lose Tottenham

Thing is, City have not found a way of beating us and it will be closer than you think, its all psychological.

It’s going to be a completely weird season because of the World Cup. It could disrupt top teams and decrease the point total for whoever finishes 1st.

City has struggled a lot in the first few games of the season. Hopefully they also struggle after returning from the World Cup.

No offence but Antonio Conte was instrumental in bringing the fanbase back. Not that I'd personally left, not Hojbjerg Look I get it your a fan but let's not kid ourselves he is a solid unspectacular reliable player, these things are virtues but he is one of the players who can be upgraded. Bissouma is better and we got him for 30m. If Newcastle gave us 40m for Hojbjerg I bet there's a player in world football Conte would pick over him.
For the record I'd NOT sell at this point but Conte's come to win the league, he will raise the technical level of the side to do this, that makes Hojbjerg vulnerable. I'd also swap him for Rice(if only to kill West ham fans).

Very well said. From a purely footballing sense he's not what we need since we got Bissouma. Same as Dier if we can get Bremer, but these are players that run the dressing room.

There's a very interesting interview with Bissouma where he talks about how at Lille he was immature, and because everyone at the club was young, there was no pressure to change (remind you of a certain bottler club?). When he went to Brighton Dunk, Murray and other older players helped him to mature.

Selling PEH is a crap idea........ We've got better things to do than try and and find yet another CM and to then break them in and then hope they can cut it.

+ A good WC and a few CL appearance and his value will rise further; just as he's entering his peak years.

Biss, Bent & Skipp are still relative newbies...... The timing is wrong.
